I own both DACs from Pro-Ject. In general I find them problematic while connected using their USB ports to various Bridges I tried.
Yesterday I tried connecting a 1 year old Project DS to a Minix mini pc that uses Win10.
To my surprise the DS was recognized by the Roon Core (MAC mini) as the newer DS2 D/A. There’s even a nice red Project logo and a cute drawing of the DS2. Unfortunately I either got no sound, or 10 seconds before Roon skipped to the next song.
I then decided to install the Win10 driver as appears in Pro-Ject’s DS web site. Now I see aditional ports connected to the Minix: One port called Wasapi, and the other called Asio…
I enabled both, and was able to use both as separate zones. I can successfully play either zone or even Both (!) at the same time. So one Dac playing 2 different songs at the same time !!!
So here is my question:
In general, when using a bridge with Win10 operating system, do I need to install a USB drivers specific to the DAC I am using?
I guess Roon and Project join forces to make some of the new DACs “Roon Ready” and thus no drivers need to be installed. This is the reason why I get nice Red Project logo and drawing when scanning the available ports in Settings, Audio…
Clarifications will be much appreciated.
Thanks
