Public IP on a MacBook I use while traveling?

I decided to put my Roon server on my MacBook, so i can use it while traveling.

Only problem is Roon Arc wants a public IP with open port. I’ve tried Tailscale but it gives me an IP that isn’t publicly accessible. Roon Arc bugs out a bit (it plays, but a lot won’t download).

Anyone got thoughts on a solution ?

Simce you have Roon server with you while travelling, you don’t need ARC. Simply connect yor DAC and headphones to the MacBook, and play through Roon.

If I’ve misunderstood, please describe your setup, and how you intend to use Roon / Roon ARC.

Incidentally, if your MacBook connects to the Internet using a mobile hotspot, it won’t have a public IPV4 address.

In addition to what @mjw says, if using ARC with Tailscale, ARC doesn’t need a public IP. You just need Tailscale installed and running on the MacBook and on the phone

Yeah that’s the issue. Imagine I leave the Macbook at the office or at the hotel. I can’t use Roon Arc easily in that case!

I couldn’t get it to download music reliably when I used Roon Arc on Tailscale. Is it suppose to work well?

Taking it with a grain of salt, but ChatGPT was like “yeah it needs something more open”. which could be ■■.

By all accounts, yes
