Thanks Daniel. Right, I saw you talking about using UAPP. Can Roon output through UAPP to the DAC? Are there any how-to’s out there for making this work?

I recommend it.
I use a Pi3 with an IQAudIO DAC as my bedroom system. The IQaudIO has an onboard TI headphone amp and sounds great with an Oppo PM3 or an ATH-MSR7. I use a Galaxy S7 or an Asus Zenpad for control. Works very smoothly and sounds better than the dragonfly I used as output device before. The Pi also runs on a powerbank for mobile use, should I desire to carry it around.
I’ve been pining for an iPad endpoint. But I just remembered I have a Surface 3 that I’m not using. It has a USB port, works perfectly well with a USB DAC/headphone dongle. I tried with a Geek Out that is normally used elsewhere.
This isn’t really small, nor really inexpensive. But it is a good tablet, and serves the endpoint function as well. Suddenly liberated me from my fixed headphone amp.
May have to buy a Dragonfly…
