QNAP NAS SSD cache setting

My QNAP TVS-682 have 4 bays for 3.5" HD (6TB each) & 2 bays for 2.5" SSD (256GB each), I had install Roon server software on one of my two SSD, the other SSD I set it to be cache. all my musics are put in Datavol1 & Datavol3(3.5" HD), do I have to choose Datavol1 & Datavol3(3.5" HD) for my cache SSD?

As far as I know, every volume needs its own ssd for ssd caching. Are there any reasons to have 2 separate volumes in the 3,5" trays?

Hi @crieke
Because I build two trays 3.5" HD with RAID1 lay to secure my musics file in a safest way, so 4 bays of 3.5" HD build two separate volume.
Besides, my nas have only two separate bay for ssd, one of SSD installed with Roon server, so it’s impossible to have separate SSD for each volume 3.5" HD

First and foremost, I want to thank you for your posts here. I finally last night upgraded the processor in my TVS-471U thanks to your post, which I originally stumbled on last year and then came back to this year and saw the updated data.

That in turn led me to purchase the M.2 SATA expansion and 2 Samsund SSDs for my QNAP, which will be arriving tomorrow.

I wanted to ask about the best way to set up Roon with this equipment. Am I better off creating a data volume with an SSD and a Cache separately? That would allow me to create the Roon DB on SSD storage.

I guess I’m a little confused with the best way to set this up for the Roon server. Let me know if you have any insight. Thanks much.

Setting up my new qnap server (i3/8g) also, with attention to the Roon server.

I used a single m.2 card for the RoonServer volume. I installed a single 2T SSD for the muxsic files. I will be using the NAS (Raid5) array for pictures and document storage. I will be backing up the RoonVolume, and Music SSD to the NAS volume, and will be backing up that to BackBlaze.

I installed a single 2.5 HD for Time Machine duties for the wife’s MacBookPro.

I am returning to a NAS based server, after trialing it before with a lesser powered NAS. Installation was a breeze on the QNAP.
