Qnap storage, Mac mini core connection issue

since the latest upgrade I have moved my core to a Mac Min thanks to great assistance here.

My issue is, I cannot add the Qnap as a share, although I can see it on my network and can play music via my Mac mini.

I have lost the Qnap password and I am trying to sort that as well.

Do I need the password to connect via Roon, as Mac mini plays files.

any help and advice is much appreciated, I am complete novice here.

Hi @Chrislayeruk, the following guide should point you in the right direction.

However, if the shares require a password, you will need to resolve that issue first. Did you successfully reset admin access on your NAS?

Sadly, I have been unable to fathom out the password re set. Do I need it for Roon

If you want Roon to access your music files, yes.

In another thread, I linked a guide. Performing a reset, will gain access without removing your data.

Thank you, ill look for it later

Well, the good news is I have finally gained access to my library on the Qnap after a lot of trial and error. It’s scanning my Roon_Music folder as I type.

Any ideas on how I can get my Tags back or do I have to start again?

Many thanks for the help, it really is appreciate more than you know

Did you run backups when Roon was installed on the NAS? If so, we can guide you to loading the most recent.

Yes, I had back ups on the NAS, so advice would be appreciated…it’s fascinating watching your library load up knowing you can’t live long enough to listen to it all again, yet still you collect music :joy:

I believe you have two options:

  1. Share the backup folder on your NAS, so the Mac (and Roon) can access your backups, or
  2. Copy the entire backup folder to a USB drive, and then attach this to the Mac.

Thank you once more, I have managed to find a path to RoonServer

smb:\\NASxxxxxx\\RoonServer\RoonOnNas\RAATServer\Database

It’s scanning now, so I’ll see what happens…

My next issue is, before any of this, Roon stopped playing overnight and the play/pause function fails to respond. The Roon app responds quickly in every other way. I expect it’s a bug a reboot may fix but I’ll wait until my data base scan is complete.

A Reboot of my MAC Mini, fixed the play problem, so now I’ll just wait to see if I can restore my database

You can’t use the old database this way.

A backup should be restored, and these are found elsewhere on your NAS.

Thank you, up the learning curve I go…

Look for a folder on your NAS called RoonBackups.

Sorry for the delay, I have found RoonBackups and it is restoring as I speak.

I have also enjoyed a crash course in this iMac.

lets see where this leads me. Thanks again for all your assistance…
