· 192 kHz FLAC files from Qobuz, that are shown as 192 kHz within Qobuz, are displayed as 96 kHz in Roon. Once playback is started, the signal path status shows the file playing at 192 kHz.
Unfortunately, this is a layer above Roon, and results from a metadata discrepancy between the Qobuz catalog and the Qobuz API. Here’s what’s happening.
Qobuz has some upstream format metadata pollution for certain high-resolution content. Their API will display the 96KHz object when a higher-resolution object is delivered. Signal Path is always transparent to the actual audio chain, so what you’re seeing is exactly how this format metadata pollution manifests: the actual delivered audio is the correct 192KHz, but the Qobuz API claims it’s only 96KHz.
Roon reports these cases to Qobuz directly, but their team will be responsible for correcting the metadata. We ultimately can’t control the timeline to when a fix will be implemented for this problem, but we very much appreciate you finding another example in the field.
We’ll pass this along to the Qobuz team. Thank you for the report.
