Description of Issue

HiRes recordings from Qobuz with 88.2 kHz 24Bit 2ch. do not work. Example: Open Qobuz
Every other combination works fine including Tidal FLAC 44.1 kHz 24bit, MQA 88.2 kHz.
My NAD 10 v2 plays the same track via BluOS without a problem.
Ok, 88.2 kHz are quite rare, but I would still like to know what the reason is that they do not run.

Greetings from Germany
Ralph

I am running a Roon Core on Linux (latest 1211) and OSX Remote (1211) and I am able to play that album @ 88.2 khz (from Qobuz). Successfully tested my M1 Mac as an endpoint and also an external DAC (Focal). The external DAC correctly shows 88.2 khz and plays the songs.

Here (Belgium) the album/track plays correctly

It does not seem to be a ‘generic’ issue with Roon / Qobuz, unfortunately for you.

P.S. I am also on the latest new Roon releases.

Do a search for BluOs and 88.2 , seems to be a issue with BluOs, Dirac, NAD

I can’t remember exactly but perhaps try upsampling to 176.4 or 192

Hi OffRode,

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Strictly speaking, it’s a problem between Roon (!), Dirac, Bluesound and NAD. Because exactly the combination Qobuz 88.1 kHz, Roon, Dirac active and NAD does not work as long as Dirac is active. If you deactivate Dirac, it works.
Interestingly, it works directly from BluOS and it also works if you start without Dirac and activate it during playback.
So where is the error: with Roon, with Dirac, with BlueOS?

But thanks for the tip

Wish I knew Ralph, I have a M33 NAD at my other home I’m going to return to next week so keep me posted please. I’ll do some more research when I get back there.

Best luck

Hi OffRode,
i will keep track of the issue and I will keep you informed about new information. Currently it seems that this is an known problem in BlueOS and the BlueOS-Dev-Team promised to fix it, but refused to say when. See noris comment on this.
It is a complex setup between Dirac, NAD, BlueOS and Roon. But ultimately it’s a marginal issue. 88.2 is a pretty rare format, at least in my experience, and NAD Master Series integrated amps are still damn good units. And they have promised to fix it. That’s the BlueOS advantage. They continue to develop it and don’t just leave you hanging like some other manufacturers do with their software for hi-fi equipment.

Agreed, @Ralph_Hensel. They do quality work and are generally quite responsive in taking in feedback about BlueOS or the products that run it.
