Qobuz stalls in Roon. 'Qobuz media loading slowly.'

I have had this problem on and off mainly with high res files. In Roon it says “Qobuz media loading slowly. This may indicate a networking or connectivity problem.” The track then stalls or skips to the next, in my Play Queue.
My set up is Roon Core on 2024 Imac. Wifi speed to Imac is approx 300 mbs download. Imac located on 2nd floor.
Denafrips Streamer (first floor) is connected via ethernet to router. Streamer has no wifi connection only ethernet. (approx 900mbs download speed).
I control Roon/qobuz playback via Roon app on Ipad. The Ipad gets approx 300mb download speed over wifi in the listening area where the streamer and hifi is located.

What am I doing wrong- or is this still a bug in Roon? I’ve read many others with same issues in teh past. Deleted cache in Roon also.

Note there is a physical distance from Roon Core on Imac (2nd flr) to living room (1st flr) where music is streaming. But I assume that it is not important because the hard wired streamer is getting its signal via ethernet connection and doesn’t rely on wifi for its connection to Roon Core/Imac . The only wifi connection that matters in my set up is connection from router to Imac and the download speed is approx 300-400mb. Sound right?

thanks for any suggestions, it’s ruining my experience and I’d love to resolve.

The most important thing is to have the server (core) on wired Ethernet, because it has two-way traffic (from Internet/Qobuz to server and from server to streamer) but WiFi can’t receive and send at the same time and therefore you don’t get the full bandwidth and high latency. The streamer can usually be on WiFi because it only receives.

This is probably what causes your problem. You should confirm or disprove by running a temporary (even if long) Ethernet cable from router/switch to iMac.

Quoting the docs:

Your Roon Server should always have a wired connection

Then I may need to buy a new Roon Server device because iMac stays in my office far from ethernet . I could locate the Roon Server next to router.
Thanks

That would be an option, but if I were in your shoes I‘d test it first if it’s really the critical part of the problem. A 50 meter Ethernet cable costs 30€ for trying

If you have fast wifi network, Roon server can work fine. My Roon server is wifi and works well but I have a very fast AI Mesh and so the flow of data is consistent.

Hi, having the same problems, with Qobuz and Tidal both to remote and local endpoints.
Server on iMac M3 hardwired to server. Today after pausing for a cup of tea, Qobuz playlist refused to restart.

Problem has persisted for a number weeks now, restarted everything I can think of that may make a difference :frowning: It didn’t.

Now getting to the point of not renewing the monthly subscription.

Hi @Howard_Seward1,

If you require help from the support team, please open a support request in the Support category of the forum which is monitored by Roon.

Note, the Support link is clickable and will take you to the correct place to create your request by clicking on the “Get Help” button.

Thank you.

do you stream Qobuz via Roon also?

My Core/ Imac has quite good download speeds via wifi (approx 300mb and 40mb upload), still get issues. Not sure if it’s as consistent as ethernet or your MESH though.

Would love to stay on wifi as hard to get ethernet to the office where Imac is situated.
thanks

So even with hardwire you have streaming issues. Shame. thanks for sharing, hope it gets fixed.

yes, I use Qobuz as my main source of music.
I would monitor your data flow which is usually possible through the admin utility of your router.
When I do run into any issues with playback it’s always related to my wifi having problems keeping the data flow at a consistently high speed.

Happened to me a bit yesterday.

I know how to check the router admin utility (TP Link) but not sure what you mean by monitoring data flow and presumably addressing it should that be the issue. any tips?

One thing I did notice was the QoS setting and I selected QoS priority for the TP link access point (hard wired) to which my Imac is connected by wifi. I also selected QoS priority for the Imac itself.

maybe this will ensure consistent data flow to Imac/roon core. Let’s see.
thank you

If you’re on PC, you can get info on your wifi network and it’ll show the speeds you’re getting with transmit and receive. You can also open up your network and sharing control panel to see the flow of data.

I have a MAc and this is what I can see. Sometimes the TX rate is higher around 650, sometimes around 450

I thought the problem might be the software configuration of my iMac. I normally have AVAST ONE running in the background, as a web browser/email monitor/protector.
Speculating that might be the problem I have disabled and so far, ROON loads and plays ‘better’, not perfect but a good improvement. Will continue to monitor, but perhaps you have similar background tasks running, worth checking.

thank you for the heads up. I don’t have Avast… But perhaps I have background programs running too, I can’t think of them off top of my head. I’ll see if I can find any via the Activity Monitor.

I have the very same issue. I live in Canada. Some days it works perfectly and the next day it drops out consistently. I can only assume the issue is related to the external internet and Qobuz. 95% of the time it drops out within the first 1 second of a new song. If I resume play the song plays fine. This must provide a significant clue to the Roon software team to adjust a timer prior to giving up!!! This is my number one issue with Roon. PLEASE Take a look and fix / provide a more fault tolerant recovery ( even if there is a pause) &/or provide better error messages to get to the bottom of the issue. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

It may be your computer is next to, or under your desk. Thick walls for any signal to penetrate. That will block a good wifi every time. Try relocating your comp. I’m betting that will solve your problem.

No flame war (I’m with Spotify as well), but on my rig TIDAL streams 24/96 just fine… and qobuz has the issues.

I hope there is a breakthrough here, as the last thing I want is to overwhelm TIDAL with my own stream requests. By my understanding demanding more means less cents per stream for the rights holders.

You’re saying that via Roon only Qobuz, not Tidal drops out?
Somehow Qobuz doesn’t play well with Roon but then many people don’t have this problem with Roon/Qobuz so I go round in circles!
Some have said my Core/Imac simply has to be connected via ethernet, which it isn’t due to the nearest ethernet connection jack being so far from where the Imac/Core resides.
Is your Core device connected via wifi or ethernet?
thanks
