Describe the issue

Random Disconnections from Roon Client (Mac)

Describe your network setup

Basic network: MacOS client and linux server hosting Roon Server on same lan (192.168.0.0/24) - all connected by wire

RoonServer logs can be found here: Roon issue logs - arman@gabric.ca.zip - Google Drive

Hi @Arman_arman,

Thank you for your post.

Logs show your RoonServer machine losing connection to the RAATServer instance on the Mac remote. There are two possibilities, based on what we can see in diagnostics:

  1. There appears to be a separate subnet on this LAN. If Roon Remote is switching between subnets or network connections, it will lose sight of RoonServer.

  2. The second possibility is that third-party software or a stateful firewall is interfering with RAATServer on the Mac or RoonServer. In most cases, this will be antivirus software.

We’ll keep an eye out for your response.

@Connor, thanks for looking.
The separate subnet is for Docker containers and another for Tailscale VPN.

In Roon remote however i have my main LAN set to 192.168.0.0 under Linn streaming…or is that a different thing all together?

Hey @Arman_arman,

Yes, this is used specifically with Linn devices, do you have any within your audio setup?

If you temporarily disable all other subnets, do you still run into the issue?

Can you also test out temporarily disabling the firewall on your Mac?

We’ll be monitoring this thread for your reply :+1:

@benjamin I will need to try - it doesn’t happen all the time.
No I’ve no Linn devices in my setup.
No AV on my Mac at all.

Also, is there a way in the Roon Linux server to specify which subnet or network adapter to listen on?

Chiming in here with the same problem. Roon remote on PC is constantly losing connection to Roon server on Mac. Also have a Tailscale subnet on PC that when disabled Roon Remote works. This is a new problem for me though, in the past Roon Remote on PC worked fine even when using Tailscale & other VPNs.

@404 thanks for the chime in. Is it still happening?

Yup! Don’t know what changed honestly, I’ve even tried downgrading my Tailscale to earlier versions.

@404 for myself it doesn’t happen as much, just on occasion. After one restart it’s stable, until next time. But now that i think about it, it started happening after i installed Tailscale…

Which version of Tailscale are you on?
I’m on 1.70.0

HI @404,

Unfortunately, the use of a VPN falls outside the scope of support. I’d post over in Tinkering to see if anyone from the community may help you with getting things functioning.

@404 is the disconnect still happening if you remove Tailscale?
I removed TS and am monitoring the situation now…

Roon will automatically try all activate network adaptors. You can disable any network adaptors you don’t want Roon to use if that is an issue for you.

@daniel can i deactivate network adapters from roon server it self or does it have to be system / OS wide?

Unfortunately this is not a capability that Roon has so it would have to be system wide. I can see how that might not be an option you can use.
