Randomly Playing music!

Over the passed couple of weeks, since the new year. Roon has started to play music on its own. It happens whilst we’re sleeping, at around 3 - 4am (AEST) on Wednesdays. It starts to play music in a zone that has auto-standby. The streamer, and amp come on, and music is playing.
I do not have the alarm extension installed anywhere.
I had Tailscale enabled and was logged into the service, but I’ve now signed out.

Has anyone experienced this issue - of Roon randomly playing music when nobody is interacting with it?

Thanks,

Are you sure it’s Roon initiating playback? Spotify has a known feature/bug (depends on your point of view) where playback can be inadvertently started remotely…

Can’t think of another way for initiating the playing of music. Don’t have Spotify. I use tidal, stream music from a local library & live radio. The music that was playing was from the local library.

Narrowed down the options then - but wrong. No further ideas… sorry.

a month ago I opened this. I don’t know if your problem is similar

You should post this in the Help section so Roon can read the logs and see what’s happening to your system.

I experience the same behavior more that a year ago.
In my case, music started playing right after a backup of Roon was initiated (or completed).
Just like Daniele mentioned above, I also had the Random Radio extension running.

I suspected there was a glitch between Roon showing an empty queue, and Random Radio thinking it needed to play some music.

After removing the Random Radio extension, I’ve not experienced the issue again.

Random Radio causes the music to start, but the problem is Roon that, for some reason, lose the connection with the endpoint and, sometimes, this causes the entire remaining queue to skip.

Random radio simply starts new music (I think it would do the same thing without extension but with “Roon Radio” active)

I had this once, Roon radio starting in the middle of the night to my Kef active system. I have 2 x subs with it, which I switch off physically and don’t leave on standby.
So about 2 am I heard this faint music, thinking it was the neighbour and I actually thought they needed some bass lol when it was my Kef system with no subs.
And it was Roon radio and I thought the music they were playing was crap.
I fell asleep and realised it was my Roon all along in the morning. The worst thing about the whole event was having to pick my way through 6 hours of Lastfm scrobbles and delete them.

Since then I’ve been sure to press the red off button for the Kef system within Roon, as I was just switching off via the Kef remote. All my other endpoints are physically switched off.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I do have the Random Radio plugin installed - just not set-up. I also have been on occasions using the Roon Radio option when playing music. My backups do run overnight, just before when I would wake up to hear the music.

Perhaps, as suggested earlier in the chat that post-backing up roon, - as roon is initiating comms with the different end-points - and in particular the one that controls Auto-standby zone, Roon Radio decides to start. I may have been using Roon Radio on those days, and just pressing Stop - to stop the music and leaving Roon to put the equipment in Auto-Standby in 15mins, which it does. Then, post-backup, the radio kicks in.

I’ll experiment over the coming few nights, with differnet options. Perhaps, myself turning off the equipment as opposed to leaving it to Roon to Auto-standby them. Or, just not using the radio options as the last thing that I’d be listening too, would make more sense.

If successful, I’ll share the solution & close the thread. Thanks for the comments. I have a feeling the radio / autostandby is the issue.
