Hi there - I have a Roon endpoint in my kitchen the we have had there for a few years. Its a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.1 running RoPieee 2024.10 (1840) [STABLE]. It connects to my home LAN over ethernet. The pi feeds into a Topping D10 DAC before finally going into my Ruark Mk2 Mr1 speakers.
I tend to leave the endpoint streaming radio (radio 2 or 3 in the UK), as the dogs are often in the kitchen and this helps prevent their barking, however the endpoint keeps stopping playing randomly. When I play radio in other rooms in the hours this does not seem happen.
I am now streaming from a qobuz playlist to see if the audio still stops.
Are there any other ideas on how to fault find in this scenario?
Does it run cool? Pi4’s re in my opinion faulty by design as they get too hot. Unless it has got a heatsink/fan it is very probable that you are seeing a heat issue.
Edit: I moved the topic to Ropieee, to allow @spockfish to spot it.
Thanks @Mikael_Ollars. I just checked in ropiee, and its at just under 40c right now, 20c lower than my other pi which sits on my desk, so doesnt appear heat related. I am not sure its a ropieee issue, hence my original posting in the tinkering section.
Can you also tell us what your server is running on? I ask because there have been some issues with the codecs for radio stations (BBC radio in particular). There is also an active ticket in for troubleshooting some of the BBC (and other) radio streams due to similar issue.
I know you say it happens with Qobuz also, but it would not hurt to make sure your up to date if it applies to your server machine.
After the endpoint has been dropping audio many times over the course of a day, I am still listening out for a drop of the audio today so I can send Harry the feedback. Predictably it is performing flawlessly streaming from Radio 3, with not a single drop yet today!
