Raspberry Pi Support [Released in Roon 1.2]

JaguarBoard is a $45 Intel-powered Raspberry Pi alternative

Let’s wait…

I don’t see the JaguarBoard (JB) specs beat the Raspberry Pi 3 (RP3) specs. It is missing wifi, which is included in the RP3.

Also there are already a lot of extensions, like DACs, for the RP3, which are not there for the JB. Their GPIO connectors are not compatible with the Raspberry extensions, which means all of them have to be developed again for the JB.

My bets are on the RP3 (with lovely RoonReady solutions in combination with IQAudIO extension boards)

JB Specifications vs RP3 Specifications

…there is already a HAT module for RPi3(2) implementing SATA for better storage capabilities

…and another

@David_Kurtin – have you tried them? do they perform at all decently?

You can boot the Pi directly over the network or from a USB drive now.

USB - https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/pi-3-booting-part-i-usb-mass-storage-boot/
Ethernet - https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/pi-3-booting-part-ii-ethernet-all-the-awesome/

So with a decent case design you could fit a Pi, ssd and anything else all in the one case.

We’re also considering some hardware designs based around the RasPi compute module v3 which should hopefully be released by the end of the year.

This could make a fairly decent server and/or network player.

Yep Hifiberry / Digi + Pro / Great combination for squeeze / Roon etc. Just put picoreplayer on it. Done. Recommend older version of picoreplayer at the moment. I’m listening to it now, works without a glitch, has Apple Airplay support too.

I agreed, it’s a great combination. If you’re only using as a Roon endpoint you might just want to install the Roon RAAT Linux client. Easy and turnkey.

Not tested as I´m preparing to test their new product with an internal mSATA support

Any chance to have a RPi Roon Server test image then?
What kind of benchmark would you like to see from mSATA performance? Just a Linux terminal output or some kind of soft (?Disk utility?) ? …thinking about some 32GB mSATA disk max.
