Redundant Sub-directories Causing Performance Issues and Editing Errors (ref#AR90WV)

Describe the issue

It's a long story, but I have two redundant sub-directories in my library structure that I want to delete. They are making the filenames of my content unnecessarily long and difficult to read, causing editing errors and I rather suspect they are causing performance problems in roon as well. For historical reasons my content is structured as follows:

mediaPC_a
mediaPC_b
----
mediaPC_n
    Audio
        Lossless Music
            Classical_0
                Album 1
                    flac1
                    flac2
                    -----
                    flacn
                ----
                Album n
            ----
            Classical_n
            Pop
            Soundtracks
            Compilations
            Jazz

I would like to delete the subdirectories “\Audio\Lossless Music” as they are totally redundant and serve no purpose. This would have the effect of moving my genre content “up” two levels in the sub-directory hierarchy. I only noticed this redundancy as I am in the process of duplicating my content onto several redundant NAS’s and the synchronization software I am using (FreeFileSync) is loosing track of .lck and .tmp files and bombing out when copying long complicated path-file names from one NAS to another.

The simplification of the directory structure I would like to make would obviously also have the effect of changing the directory structure from roon’s perspective. It is not quite the same as, for example, moving my content to another mapped drive and then telling roon that my content has been moved. In this scenario, which I have done many times, roon does not rebuild the library so I keep all my roon edits intact. But what will roon do if I delete the two subdirectories as described and then tell roon the new location of my content?

Will roon keep all my edits or will roon rebuild my library and loose all my edits?

Describe your network setup

Simple network where I generally use a google nest WiFi 5 mesh or chromecast when playing with roon. Mostly I only ever use the fixed line LAN @ 1gbe over a mixture of CAT 5e and CAT6 when editing my library.

Hi @tripleCrotchet ,

Roon should be able to match the tracks up, as long as you follow the instructions listed in this guide:
