I just received one of the “Roon Mastery Series” emails that stated the following:
Roon’s rich metadata is a treasure trove of connections between musical artists, including groups formed in the same state or country. This uncovers intriguing relationships between groups and provides a fantastic opportunity to dive into and support local music scenes.
Is there anyway for Roon to use this location metadata to filter out bands with the same name as other bands? I’ve noticed an increase in tracks from bands with the same name as who I am looking for but are completely unrelated bands from other countries.
One example is “Friction” who is a Drum and Bass music producer but when looking at their discography the track “F*cked Over”, “Only Lies” etc are tracks from some Indy Pop band.
So is it possible for Roon to filter or move these tracks out so they don’t appear under the section for a different artist?
Thanks for that link. Not sure if this is the same issue or not as the linked since the issue I’m seeing is multiple bands with the same name but each band comes from a different country. So Friction - USA and Friction - UK or Mexico etc. Since there isn’t a good way, it seems, to have multiple bands with the same name show up on content providers it lumps all the songs together under the one name. If they did geo-checking or other metadata comparisons between the tracks authors it could help prevent this from happening without a constant stream of user reported metadata updates.
Well, there are other artists with the same name who are properly kept separate, so clearly it’s not lumping everything together as soon as it has the same name.
So yes, there are errors and clearly they need a systematic way to disambiguate this, but first they have to know
