Hi,
Every version update fails. I choose install update and that’s it - neverending fast blinking green light. So I have to install fresh image, which is annoying. Coorect the issue, please!
Can I find more detailed information about the individual update statements on the web? In particular: “IMPROVEMENT: update Librespot component (Spotify)” What has been changed/is new/etc.?
I have a RPi4 that is having trouble connecting to my wifi network following the update from 2024.06 to 2024.8. The wireless interface is a TP-Link Archer T2U Plus [RTL8821AU]. The update stalled with a WiFi connection error, but completed when I plugged in a Ethernet cable. When I attempt to scan for WiFi networks after updating, the interface hangs. Connecting over Ethernet in a different room is working for now.

Update: Switching configuration to the onboard WiFi appears to work. I can scan for networks, connect, and obtain an IP address. Is the TP-Link adapter no longer supported following the kernel update? In the past, I experienced fewer dropouts using the TP-Link interface instead of onboard WiFi.
Thanks for all you do to provide the Ropieee service.
It’s still supported, but here I’m entirely reliant upon some volunteers that maintain the Realtek driver out-of-three. The fact is that wireless support on Linux is still… not where it supposed to be.
On Raspberry Pi you see the negative result(s) of the used chipset and it’s firmware: the company that made the original chipset has been bought twice and the current owner is not really that much into keeping stuff up-to-date and workable.
With alternative USB adapters the sad matter of fact is that most of these dongles use a (cheap) Realtek chipset, and Realtek is famously known for there very bad Linux support. Hence we need to rely on a few volunteers trying to maintain a working driver out-of-tree.
That being said: if you want reliable WiFi, and are not reliant on WPA3-only (mixed is perfectly fine), then I suggest you use the onboard interface. Another alternative would be a wifi bridge, which just connects to the ethernet port. Those are pretty cheap, and prevent the whole driver/firmware mess.
And ultimately my “you-can-guess-what” advice: if in any way possible, use a wired connection. Better on all levels.
That being said: I’ve got the same dongle lying around, and your logs show a clear driver crash. I’ll try to see how it behaves on my end and see what I can do.
Thanks for the additional background, Harry. The onboard WiFi is working well so far. While there is no wired Ethernet available in that room, a bridge is a good idea if dropouts return.
@spockfish, would it ever be possible for us to have some sort of notification (on top of your posts here - for which, much appreciation) which could alert users when the/an update is actually ready to be applied locally, please?
I’ve got it fixed. I had to reflash a micro SD card and go through the whole setup again. That happened once before when RoPieee would not complete the update and the screen would not work.
