Release 2024.08

Hi Jim,

I’ve ordered this specific dongle. There is a new driver that I want to test.
I’ll let you know how things go.

Thanks

I decided to take 2024.08 (1713) for a typical update to my RP4-■■…I have two of them. The first came back with the update in the usual manner. The second one is stuck on “Wrapping up installation”. Any thoughts on what I should do or am I going to have to rebuild the flash drive from scratch?

Have you tried reconnecting to it from a new browser window/tab?

Otherwise I suggest you pull the power and sees if it comes back up.

Yes, a power cycle cleared the problem. Installation finished and the RPi4 is back up. Thanks.

@spockfish Harry think I found a bug on units with display. When selecting another zone in the bottom of the screen it changes to the new zone and that’s all good, but there is no way back…the list comes up as before but what ever you select is ignored. I assume a reboot gets it back to the originally setup zone as it’s was working after nightly restart.

@wizardofoz
I have done the test on my display (RPI3A, Beta 1708 and also Stable 1712), but I couldn’t reproduce this issue. I can change the zone as many times I like. So at least this is not a common bug. I hope Harry can help you further.

@spockfish f89c354f2dbd1927 in case you need it

Is it reproducible?

I have two endpoints running and 2024.04.2 and 2024.06. They both work fine.
They have both downloaded, but not yet installed, 2024.08.

I do not want them to install 2024.08 because of the realtek WiFi problem.
If I just leave them, and do not do the upgrade, will they still pick up later updates so I can delay the upgrade until the WiFi issues look better?
ie. can I easily skip this update?

Two other endpoints that I allowed to upgrade to 2024.08 no longer work on WiFi (TP-Link Archer T2U nano USB). I have tried 2024.08 (1708) and (1712) but in both cases I get same as JWC, scanning with T2U selected does not find the network.

And thanks again to Harry for all the hard work on ropieee, and for explaining the Realtek chipset issues. I can run some of these wired but one or two on WiFi is very useful.

The T2U is a RTL 8811AU which has worked fine for me for ages, but not since 2024.08

I previously tried an EDUP RTL8812BU and a Comfast RTL8812AU but could not get those to work al all. The chipset names are so similar BUT no go… all very confusing. I have ordered a T3U to try also as someone here recommended it a while back but we’ll see. It’s a shame there isn’t a known-good USB dongle. I am quite tempted to have a go adding u.FL connectors and pigtails to the Pis to try to make onboard WiFi a bit more useful.

A question: Is it easy for me to build a compatible minimal linux setup based on ropieee’s kernel just for testing purposes?

Just noticed my time zone was changed to from US to European on the last update.

“TP-Link Archer T3U plus” has arrived and…

I can confirm is working great with a fresh install of ropieee 202408 (1712)

(in this case with a HifiBerry Amp+ on a recent pi3 model A)

That is weird because T3U is supposed to be a RTL8812BU.
Last time I tried (admittedly some time ago), the EDUP RTL8812BU dongles I had did NOT work.

Chipset info for TP-Link is available here if anyone finds this useful :-

Hi Harry,

Spotify connect is not working on 2024.08. I have tried to connect to the service via spotify. Spotify kept saying connecting and the service disappear.

I have sent you a feedback # ca18b5ec88a780a8. See whether you can figure it out.

Alfred

See my earlier post about Spotify.
There is a problem with Spotify’s API (they stopped supporting username/password), so this needs to be resolved first.

Thanks

Hi,

I’ve just pushed out a BETA for the upcoming 2024.09 release.
It has a new Realtek driver that works with the T2U Plus, but I except this driver to fix a few more troublesome dongles.

If you’re up to it you could give it a try.

Thanks
