Is there a release schedule for HQPlayer?
I wouldn’t want to purchase if there is something imminent planned, such as a V5 or API changes.
Thanks!

If you bought v4 and then shortly after v5 released, there is a coupon code that can be requested/calculated and you receive a discount on the update. The amount varies and is determined by your hqp key file.
Currently it is just for v3 to v4 but I’m sure that’ll be updated when a new version is released.
Thanks. I generally understood the upgrade process. However, without knowing the release schedule, I can’t do a cost/benefit for adding HQPlayer to my setup. It definitely - if subtly, improves the sound on my system and I’d like to add it but perhaps I would be better off spending money recapping the crossovers on my 40 year old Boston Acoustics A200 speakers. Unfortunately, I don’t have an “audiophile” budget so funds have to be spent wisely.
Generally, companies never publish release schedules of their product lines.
In addition, I don’t even work against any schedules.
So the discount gets larger the closer your purchase date of the old and new Versions are?
I’m in the same boat… I would hate to buy the current version maybe next month and there is a new version 2 months later ![]()
You know, now that I really think back, it was OWC softraid that did the pro rating… jussi may just give you a little off, now I don’t remember
… either way it’s worth it.
I only upgraded hqplayer once and it was very fair. I can’t say the same for other software purchases I’ve made. cough cough softraid. Since the softraid app was branded with the OWC logo, it seems like every improvement they hyped about was always a paid upgrade. Or they’d fix (which took forever) an on-going bug and hype it up… we fixed the bug… (available on new version with paid upgrade). I switched to open zfs. I got tired of it.
Jussi, on the other hand, has supplied me with a the best upsampling product full of feature updates, performance and or optimizations. And they are serious same version updates, new filters, new modulars.
If you buy the desktop version you get a key that works with windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems and can switch at any time. (Only 1 instance running at a time for obvious reasons). This really doesn’t sound like a big deal, but a lot of companies do not do this. Embedded keys are a bit different. I prefer desktop.
Fast bug fixes.
Great support. From him personally and from a lot of very knowledgeable users.
HQPlayer is one of the most reasonable major software purchases I’ve ever made. I have zero regrets from this purchase. I would not let the worry of a new version release delay you from making a purchase. I’m going to guess, as desktop is up to version 4, 3 updates on that list for desktop required a payment. There’s over 12 years of product updates on his page! 12 years of improving and refining his filters and modulators.
Best software purchase I ever made for my system was HQPLayer Desktop and a NAA. Even better than Roon as I always use hqplayer now. I can use hqplayer without Roon but if I use Roon without hqplayer it’s a step backwards for me. Not to take away from Roon, Roon does give me a better user interface, and Roon is bit perfect, but, in the end it’s about the sound, and for me, HQPlayer takes listening to a new level.
ffk - You are a passionate advocate for HQPlayer. I appreciate your thoughtful and insightful response.
Thanks!
