I have strayed from the path of righteousness and sinned. After a brief, illicit affair with Spotify (and a couple of cheap, one-night stands with Apple and Amazon), I’m renewing my vows with roon+qobuz in hopes of forgiveness and redemption.
Sure, the others look nice from a distance. But up close you start noticing the layers of gaudy makeup and other tawdry airs. The promised bliss remains elusive as character flaws reveal themselves.
How soon we forget the virtues that first drew us in. RAAT, zone control (with per-zone EQ/DSP no less!), focus+bookmarks, genres upon sub-genres, pretty UI, seamless remote control, the sound quality (coming back was like getting a new stereo for free) and the metadata. Oh, the metadata. I so missed all of that which I had forsaken and took for granted.
Sure there are flaws. But who among us is perfect? I will not stray again. It’s just not worth it for a fleeting cheap thrill.
