Remote and audio output on Windows PC (no core)

Hi,

just one question:

My current setup is running Roon core on a windows PC.

I will probably move to another apartment and will have a separate Roon core in a different room there.

As far as I understand, nothing will change with my Roon experience (GUI and audio output on this windows PC), just that the roon core that is running in the background is not on the same computer anymore.

Reason for this question: I am using SonarWorks for room correction on this PC and need it to keep working, although the Roon core moves to a different computer.

Many thanks!

Hi @econaut,

That’s correct, just bear in mind that all the audio is routed via the core not the remote PC running the GUI, and it’s highly recommend that the Roon Core is hardwired to your network (due to the volatile nature of Wifi).

On the core machine, you have a choice of running “Full” Roon (with GUI) or Roon Server (no GUI).
If it’s a headless device (or hidden away somewhere and not directly accessed that often) that later is typically the preferred option.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for clarification.

Core is and will always be hardwired.

Two further questions:

  1. But isn’t it bad for the client then as well if it uses Wifi?
  2. If one uses a Roon core without GUI and an internal SSD, how is one getting local files onto that SSD? Say it’s running Linux with Roon Server on it (not ROCK). Other possibilty would be a NAS, I know that.
