· I want to set up a new NUC. Is there a place where I can download specific instructions on how to do this and get it up and running? BACKGROUND: I am currently using a Grimm MU1 as my streamer but have acquired a new DAC and Clock that only allows for USB input into the DAC for it to work properly. It accepts AES and SPDIF; however, the clock will not work properly since the AES cable has a clock in it and it renders the clock I am testing useless. Before I go out and get a new NUC I am inquiring about the setup. Thank you for taking the time to assist.

I am have my new ASUS NUC. When I first powered on the NUC and hit F7 the computer immediately went into several downloads and updates. (2, Prepare your NUC’s BIOS) This was before I was able to verify on ASUS website and search for my NUC model. I did complete STEP 3 and prepared a USB Drive to FAT32. How do you copy the .BIO file onto a USB. Should that be on my NEW ASUS NUC or from another PC onto USB drive after I format it to FAT32? Mark
WARNING: You need to verify that you have the correct bios file. It “shouldn’t” let you burn the wrong one, but you need to make sure you are using the correct one for your model number to be safe.
Thank you. So, where I am stuck downloading the latest BIOS Update (.BIO file). Do I download that from ther NUC or another computer onto the portable USB stick? I converted the USB stick over to to the Fat32 on my Mac.
To keep things as simple as possible: you can safely skip the BIOS update step. As @Suedkiez mentioned, BIOS updates were primarily necessary for much older NUC models that shipped with specific bugs. Modern ASUS NUCs come from the factory with a BIOS that is perfectly capable of running Roon ROCK right out of the box.
Since you are having trouble preparing the BIOS update drive on your Mac, there is no need to struggle with it. Updating the BIOS won’t improve your sound quality or Roon’s performance.
Your next steps should be:
Verify BIOS Settings (Step 2 of the guide): Instead of updating, just make sure your BIOS settings are correct. Power on the NUC, tap F2 to enter the BIOS, and ensure that Legacy Boot is disabled (you want UEFI enabled) and that Secure Boot is turned off.
Flash the ROCK Image (Step 3): This is the important part. On your Mac, use a tool like Etcher to “burn” the ROCK installation image (the .img file, not the BIOS file) onto your USB drive.
Install ROCK: Plug that drive into your NUC, boot from it, and follow the on-screen instructions to install Roon OS.
Would you like the direct link to the Etcher tool for your Mac to make flashing the installation drive easier?
I have a couple updates. I was able to get the flash drive all set up through my Mac and went through the steps as described; however, several issues stop me from making this process successful: 1) After I am able to go through the . BIOS setup of the NUC never brings me back to the screen where I can hit the F9 key to finalize. 2) When step 1 fails for me, the NUC is taking me to Microsoft and wanting me to sign in (which I don’t), or it takes me to a blue screen and essentially wants me to go to Microsoft, as I get the 4 squares. I turn the machine off at this point and start over. 3) I called ASUS for technical support, but they could not help me get away from the Microsoft screens, so they escalated the issue internally. 4) So, I went back and redid the FAT32 and downloaded the software to be flashed onto a new USB drive. 5) When I download the Etcher piece, what should I download it into…Mac, Linux, or Windows? For reference, I will be setting it up on my Mac but didn’t know if I necessarily needed to download it in macOS. Any feedback is appreciated.
once you are finished making changes to the bios settings, try hitting F10 to save and exit the bios setup and reboot the nuc
To access the boot menu on an Intel NUC, press F10 repeatedly during boot when the NUC logo splash screen appears. This allows you to select a boot device, such as a USB drive, for installing operating systems. Alternatively, check in the bios for the “boot order” and make sure the USB drive is listed before the internal drive or is set as primary.

Etcher is a program you download and install on your mac or PC and then run it to “flash” the rock image file onto the usb drive, this makes the usb drive bootable with the install program for ROCK.
All the above being said I would review a few videos on youtube to see how this process works or find a geek friend to help you through this.
This is an older video but has most of the information you would need (several part series).
Thank you for replying. Appreciate the assistance! I was able accomplish everything but can’t get the Rock to be discovered in my system. I get a blue screen with the time and date and then it switches over and makes a request that I can’t complete. Not at my computer right now. I’ve got a 26 port Ethernet switch and I’m thinking that maybe it won’t pick up the rock unless my laptop and NUC are on the same smaller router so I will try that as well tonight.
