Request for permission and instructions for upgrading RAM in Nucleus One (ref#CGMXE4)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Just bought a Nucleus One and want to upgrade RAM to 16 GB. It's my understanding I need 'permission' to do it and that you will provide instructions. I've built computers in the past and made significant upgrades to two NUCs.

Tell us about your home network

· Nucleus One works. Transferred my music to 2TB SSD.

If your Nucleus One is working and does not actually crash, then you don’t need a memory upgrade and increasing the memory will not yield any benefit.

Unlike most modern OS’s (Windows, MacOS and typical Linux installations included), RoonOS does not use memory paging. This means that a memory allocation will either work or fail catastrophically if insufficient memory is available..

Thus, if you are not seeing system crashes you don’t need to upgrade the memory.

Thanks for the insight.

As far as I am aware, you do not require permission to increase memory in any of the Nucleus products.

Below is a link to a thread where someone from Roon spoke about it. There is a single slot so you need to replace the existing stick with a 16gb stick of the correct type.

This was added to the KB apparently some weeks ago:

It is required for Nucleus One and Nucleus Titan owners whose Nucleus is still under warranty in order to avoid invalidating the warranty as described at:

As the warranty terms for the Nucleus One and the Nucleus Titan appear to be the same for the earlier Nucleus models (as described in the Nucleus Limited Warranty document found in the google drive folder at Roon publc resources) all Nucleus One and Nucleus Titan devices will still be within their warranty period.

Of course, once the warranty period expires, there will be no longer be a need to seek such permission.

Edit: I see @Suedkiez beat me to the answer - as he often does

Edit further: I didn’t post the link to the help centre article in my orignal response to the OP precisely because his awareness of the need to seek permission indicated that he had already seen the article.

Hello @Jeffrey_Miller,

Thank you for reaching out to our Support.

To help you with your RAM upgrade question, could you please provide a bit more detail by answering the questions below?

A. Library & Usage

  • Library Size: Approximately how large is your library (e.g., number of tracks)?
  • File Types: Are your files primarily high-resolution, large-format, or high-bitrate media?
  • Resource Intensity: Even if your library is under 100K tracks, are the files themselves unusually large or demanding?
  • Performance Issues: What specific symptoms are you experiencing? (e.g., slow loading, lag, freezes, instability, or indexing delays)
  • Consistency: Does this issue happen consistently or intermittently?
B. Other steps Verification Before proceeding, please let us know if:
  • Your software version is fully up to date.
  • Your network stability has been verified.
Thank you! Looking forward to your reply.
