· Dear Roon Support Team,

I previously used Roon and had a very good experience with your software. I am now considering using it again, but I have been informed that the current version of Roon does not support Windows 7.

Unfortunately, upgrading my computer or operating system is not possible at the moment. Therefore, I would like to ask if it would be possible for me to download and use an older version of Roon, such as version 1.8.

At this time, the only features I need are local file playback and the ability to connect to TIDAL.

I would greatly appreciate your advice or any possible solution you could suggest.

Thank you for your time and support.

I’m not sure Roon Support will be able to offer assistance here.

Windows 7 was EOL in January 2020.

Roon 1.8 is no longer getting security updates, and as it still needed to phone home occasionally (every 30 days or so) it still needs access to the internet. A security risk. You also mentioned Tidal, so it will need internet access.

I would recommend buying a small mini PC and run the latest version of Roon.

The other factor is your Windows 7 machine. It’s likely to be older than 2020, so I think even with Roon 1.8 it may have issues.

Roon 1.8 is no longer available. Moreover, it is unlikely that this would work with their cloud infrastructure or devices nowadays because recent updates have added new signing (security) requirements.

I doubt this will help since the OP needs a Roon client, too.

Whilst you could install Windows 10 on your PC, there is no free upgrade path now, and Windows 11 is unlikely to install on an older computer.

Maybe it’s time to consider running Linux on this device, and give it a new lease of life. Take a look at Zorin OS. Running an unsupported OS exposes you to significant risk.

There are plenty here who can help you if you decide to give Linux a try.

Most come pre-installed with Windows 10/11

Most people have a cellphone that can run the Roon client. A NucBox G5 works well as a Roon server. I also bought a Used Mac Mini for $200 that works well.

Roon 1.8 Legacy will do the trick.

Nope, won’t work unless you can find an original Roon 1.8 installer for Windows.

If Roon 2.0 cannot be installed then you cannot migrate to 1.8 as Roon have removed that page from their help pages.

Hi @sg2408,

While we’re thrilled to see you back in the Roon community, Roon 1.8 is unfortunately no longer available or supported at this time due to potential security vulnerabilities. It’s not possible to download the legacy version of Roon. You’ll need to download Roon 2.0 on supported hardware to use Roon at this time:
