First of all, I would like to apologize if these points have already been discussed elsewhere and I have simply missed them.
In Roon, the concept of a “Classical Composer” seems to be a source of various inconsistencies and confusion. For example:
- Ambiguity of Classification: It is unclear whether living composers should be categorized as “Classical Composers” or not.
- Inconsistent “Composed By” Displays: In cases where a composer performs their own work (such as a piano solo), if they are listed as the Main Artist, the album sometimes fails to appear under the “Composed By” section of their artist page. The logic behind when it appears and when it doesn’t is unclear.
- Genre Discrepancies (Jazz, Pops, etc.): Artists in Jazz and Pop are also composers who often provide songs for others. For instance, it would be ideal if albums where other artists perform songs by John Coltrane or The Beatles appeared under the “Composed By” section of their respective artist pages, but currently, this is not the case.
- The Modern Composer: Many contemporary classical composers are also improvising performers, much like the quintessential classical composer, J.S. Bach.
Based on the above, I would like to request that the specific concept of “Classical Composer” be abolished in favor of the following logic:
- Treat all artists as potential “Composers.” It just so happens that some artists may not compose, but the system should not treat the role differently based on genre.
- Unify the Artist Page: The “Composed By” section should be available for every artist, displaying all albums that contain tracks composed by that artist.
