Much to my surprise, I just found out that although exporting a playlist from Roon is extremely easy and to a variety of formats (m3u, xls, xml), importing is quite a different story!
Importing an xml or m3u playlist that is not treated by Roon as “read-only”, should be basic functionality.
I haven’t lost or had my Roon db crash or anything; so I’m not looking to restore something I’ve lost from a backup; I just found it a huge oversight that we can;t perform something so trivial as restoring a playlist from a simple xml file.
I’m placing this in the support section just for the Roon team to consider adding support for in a future release, in case they consider this as a worthwhile request.
After experimentation, there is a workaround to import writable playlists but it’s time consuming, especially of you have several playlists to import. In my case, it’s not too bad since I have around ten but people who have a huge number of playlists, will suffer.
If you import your playlist and then edit and copy to a new Roon playlist, it becomes a native, writeable playlist. However you have to do that procedure one at a time, and then rescan the entire library to discover the next playlist, edit, copy to a new playlist again and so on…
So, yeah, it works but it’s extremely cumbersome. Roon team, can you please consider a more straightforward import process?
