I wasn’t aware of David’s legacy until after he died. It came to my attention when no less than four different shows on RRR had a tribute program dedicated to him upon his death. The shows were ordinarily specialised jazz, soul, psychedelic and hip-hop oriented. It seemed to me that never had one man covered as broad a gamut of music or attracted devoted followers over such a wide time scale.
His Wikipedia article sets out the extraordinary breadth of his accomplishments and some of the extensive sampling of his work. David must have enjoyed being recognised as ahead of his time during his life.
