RIP Rory O’Donoghue

Although not a prolific recording artist, there are few Australians who grew up in the 70s who wouldn’t be familiar with Rory’s music in his best known role as Thin Arthur on the Aunty Jack Show. Sadly, he took his own life in December 2017 after being hospitalised with depression. His lifelong friend Grahame Bond performed and spoke at a memorial where his many friends farewelled him.

Apart from playing in whacky comedies Rory was a wonderful musician. Someone who could always find the right passing chord, inflection or beat to say just what he wanted. He had that knack of seemingly effortless motion that imbues all the best arrangements.

In later life I was a great fan of the little clips he made for YouTube. I’ll leave you with some of my favourites. And goodbye Rory. One half of Wollongong’s own Neil Diamond - The Farrelly Brothers !

And lastly, Farewell Aunty Jack …
