Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra being incorrectly identified as Eastmam-Rochester Pops Orchestra

On 2 albums; “Gershwin: Piano Concerto in F, Rhapsody in Blue, Cuban Overture” Jeff Tyzik conducting the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra on the Harmonia Mendi label, and “Grofe: Grand Canyon Suite and Concerto for Piano & Orchestra” Ferde Grofe conducting the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra on the Everest label the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is misidentified as the Eastman-Rochester Pops Orchestra in the performed by and orchestra credits.

That’s probably because they are different names for the same orchestra. Eastman-Rochester Pops is one of several names the organization has used from time to time.

Thanks Stan I wasn’t aware of that. Problem solved.

They also used Eastman-Rochester Orchestra. George Eastman - the founder of Kodak, headquartered in Rochester - put up the money for the orchestra and for the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. It surely wouldn’t surprise you learn there was a close connection between the Orchestra and the School.
