Describe the issue

I am running Roon rock on a NUC and library is held on a QNAP with 5420 albums and 67417 tracks.

There are two issues that I need help with

1) On restart it will add some files as new when nothing has been added to the library - How do I stop this from happening?

2) The library does not stop the background audio analysis even after weeks of running

The library numbers increase with time

Looking forward to getting this resolved

Kind Regards

Nick

Thanks for writing in @Nick_Hillier!

Sometimes Roon starts before the QNAP share is fully available after restart, causing it to “see” an empty folder, then re-add files when they appear.

  • Try disabling “automatically rescan on startup” in Settings → Storage → Edit for that watched folder.
  • Then manually rescan once you’re sure the NAS is mounted.

Could you please share a screenshot of your Roon Settings > Storage?

Thank you! :raising_hands:

I have stopped auto scan and then manually scanned folder -this resulted the storage page.

I also stopped background analysis and then re enabled

so on manual rescan this is the status

From my memory some files re appear as new files even though they have been stored for a long time.

Please repost your screenshots - they are not showing up properly in your previous post. Thank you.

Hi @Nick_Hillier,

Thanks for the screenshots! We’re seeing something odd from your ROCK storage shares - it looks like each music folder is reporting from two separate IP addresses:

For example:

\\192.168.0.yyy\multimedia

and

 \\192.168.1.yyy\Multimedia

Could you double-check that your QNAP isn’t reporting itself twice across multiple subnets within your local network?

Let me know if this helps! :folded_hands:

I have removed the additional library links that were there from using and old router.

The issues still exist

Hey @Nick_Hillier,

Thanks for the update! From a recent ROCK Roon Server diagnostic report, we’re seeing your library reporting right around ~67k tracks, are you still having issues here?

You are correct in the library size, however I am still seeing issues that the background audio analysis is stuck on 18134 / 19946.

I have set directories only scan on reboot - Previously old files would be presented as newly added.

Good day @Nick_Hillier !

Thanks for confirming.

Can you please try to reenable the Background analysis and set it to “Throttled” instead of “Fast” ?

According to few other recent topics it was helpful to some people.

Let us know please whether it was helpful.

Regards.

The set the background analysis to throttled and re-scaned the directories.

This caused a complete lock up of Roon and needed to be restarted

On restarting Roon

I noted the following
  1. One album is showing as a newly imported when it has been created for a long time

  2. The background analysis is stuck ( see screen shot)

  3. It identified a number of deleted files (These have been deleted)

Further update - After adding a new download album and performing a manual rescan the following is showing and the analysis is stuck

Hello @Nick_Hillier,

Thank you for the update.

Could you please try moving the files into your library in smaller batches to help identify which specific file is causing the extended analysis time?

Once you’ve found the problematic file, please share it with us using the link below so we can investigate further:

Hi @Nick_Hillier,

We’ve taken a look at logs to see if we can identify the file choking up audio analysis.

There’s a particular Christmas album that Roon seems to re-scan with uncanny frequency:

Various Artists/The Best Christmas Album in the World...Ever!

Do you have any tags associated with this album? How is it stored within your Watched Folders (do you have the various CDs in dedicated folders, or is this content spread throughout a “Various Artists” folder?)?

We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!

There are a number of Albums that re appear after a rescan ( see picture)

5

The Christmas album is stored as disk1 and disk 2 under a various artists folder.
I have just noted that there is a duplicate copies

Some of the albums that get re imported are in a single folder

Hope this helps

Hi @Nick_Hillier,

Thanks for your response, although @connor was asking specifically about tags associated with the Christmas album mentioned above. Do you know if there are additional file tags included?

Is this on purpose? If not, moving any duplicates to a non-watched folder would likely help you out here.

I’d also test temporarily moving all your various artists to a separate, non-watched location and see if you experience the same scanning issues.

I have moved files that were being identifed as new files into a seperate folder and the continuos scanning has stoped . When scanning new folder the same issue reoccurs.
Having disabled folder with issues and restarted Roon all appears to be good - although unit is running warn (NUC). Outstanding questions:

  1. Can the files be recovered?
  2. Can the NUC running ROCK be looked at to see what resources are being used?
