I am about to rebuild my ROCK server and am struggling to obtain the supported hardware. The Asus NUC 13 is no longer being produced; the current model is the NUC 16. I could not find a single authorized reseller in the US selling the NUC 13 (i7, Tall Chassis). It was only available from non-authorized resellers, which voids the manufacturer’s warranty. I found one authorized reseller (Amazon) selling the compact chassis, which I bought. Were I building this server six months from now, I probably could not buy it from any authorized source.
I appreciate Roon’s willingness to provide the ROCK solution free of charge, and I respect their guideline about supported hardware. I come from an IT background and understand the need for hardware certification in a support environment. That said, the supported hardware must be available. The hardware links in the ROCK knowledge base link to an unauthorized vendor. I’m not saying that they aren’t reputable, just that the buyer has no manufacturer warranty.
Is there a plan to certify more current hardware for ROCK in the near future?

I have been on a similar search (intermittently) for almost a year and could not understand why I was unable to find the recommended model. I have been swamped with other things and have not had the time or energy or familiarity with PCs to get a handle on what the big picture is. Now it makes sense.
I am very much looking forward to an answer. I am a lifetime subscriber but gave up on using Roon over a year ago or so because I was having so many problems with it that I have not had the time to pursue. ROCK on a Nuc seemed like the best place to try to begin again. But not finding the hardware stymied me.
You can use Windows and run the Windows RoonServer. Benefit, you can actually monitor the hardware which you can’t do with ROCK. OR, if you don’t like Windows and you are a IT person, use DietPi for PC which is a stripped down Linux build and run RoonServer on it. DietPi comes with an ANSI menu for installation of software including Roon.
My 7i7 NUC is still going strong but it would be nice to have a modern NUC option to consider. I now have a new Ugreen NAS (and there is an official Docker build) and a Mac Mini M4 to choose from if the worst happens. Searching on eBay/Amazon you can find older NUC models going cheap…
Roon staff may well read this section but a quick scan for jellyfish avatars shows 2 replies in 2 1/2 months so I wouldn’t be putting any money down on actually getting an answer or acknowledgment.
In recent months, Roon staff (especially new additions like @Stephen) has been more talkative than at any time in the past 6 years I’ve been using it, and the permanent performance improvements certainly show that they have been listening.
I also see that the tech support team are giving much more detailed feedback about what they find out about with reported issues, and that I welcome very much.
