Troubleshooting Windows 11 Explorer Connection to Nucleus/ROCK
· I am still having issues
Describe the issue
i just installed rock on my NUC, i then try to reach it via any of my remotes, and get the screen to select the rock as the core, I select rock, and then it prompts me to update the rock, the message downloading update appears, and then, it gets stuck in there, no update. and therefore, no fun. I`ve already tried installing many times de rock usb image previously downloaded from the help center to no avail. the version that appears on my NUC is version 1.0 (build 258).
Describe your network setup
i have my NUC connected via an ethernet cable to my internet router, I was previously using the same router with a legacy version due to hardware limitations which I`m trying to overcome using the NUC
I dont have a nucleus, I just installed roon rock on a NUC, the rock seems to be up and running, when I try to acces the UI, with any remote, I see the rock as an option to connect as a core when O clock in connect, it then asks for an update in the next screen, when clickong on the update button, it starts downloadi g the update but it stays there, it won’t go anywhere after that. I already tried to reinstall the rock several times but everything is still the same.
Did you follow @Suedkiez 's suggestion to use the Reinstall button on the Web Administration Interface of the ROCK/NUC? As he says, that is a necessary step in the ROCK Install guide.
Sorry, I was missing that step, thank you, now I only need to know how to have access to the files I have in an external drive connected to the nuc, it does not appear as a folder to add in the files tab inside the roon menu, and also how to make a refresh of the backup I made before migrating.
We can see that you’re using Windows 11, and in this case the behavior you’re seeing is expected. By default, Windows blocks access to network shares that use SMB guest access (no username/password), which is how ROCK/Nucleus exposes its internal storage.
What to do next (Windows 11)
Please enable SMB guest access in Windows by following this step-by-step guide:
Once this is enabled:
Open File Explorer
In the address bar, enter:
\\<ROCK-IP-address>\Data
(replace <ROCK-IP-address> with the IP shown in the ROCK web UI)
3. Press Enter
You should then be able to access your files and point Roon to your music folders, as well as copy or restore backups.
Let us know once you’ve tried this or if you need help finding the ROCK IP address.
This thread has been quiet for at least a week and we’re going to allow it to auto-close at this time.
Diagnostics indicate that your ROCK might still not be taking updates automatically (it’s on a slightly outdated build 1598). Please try updating from Settings → About within Roon or by reinstalling from the WebUI (there are instructions in post 2 above).
Moving forward, we recommend ensuring that the DNS service assigned in your router is reliable. This will ensure that your network can reliably resolve the URLs associated with Roon’s update servers. Also whitelist Roon in any third-party network security.
This should help prevent background updates from failing silently.
If you have any questions moving forward, please reach out in a new request here and we’ll promptly open a new topic thread or reactivate this thread as relevant. Thank you!
