rooExtend – The easy start with Roon Extensions

USB power is part of not yet released v3.4.4

I believe the web-server is running as it is part of the rooExtend Licende Manager process. It must be there if the License manager runs.

I propose you enter the full URL including http:// in the browser. Must browsers today add https:// in front of the IP and rooExtend has no https server.

my recommendation is to keep the Raspberry Pi always on. Otherwise you can miss the nightly updates.

Are you interested to get invited to the Beta Testing group of rooExtend v3.4.4. Please let me know.

In any case I will send you the credentials by e-mail for activating your HAT.

Thanks for all your help with my device. I must have once set up wifi on it, and that was causing all the issues now that it was wired. A good lesson to keep track of what you’ve done!

If you’re open to adding me to the beta test I’d love it. Right now I’m using the USB “12v trigger” to power on and off my amplifiers in an unorthodox and unideal way - I’m issuing a shutdown command to the RooExtend which then turns off the device and the USB at the same time. It’d be great to have it integrated into the device itself. And very happy to have it instead controlled via GUI. My main concern about operating this way is if for whatever reason the Pi reboots and it forgets the (off) USB power state and leaves the 12v trigger on so my amps (& tubes) stay on until I notice - which if I’m travelling could be a week.

In any case, if I can be helpful, sign me up!

Incredibly exciting! Very cool hardware.

I’ll happily beta test this too. Wanted usb power off for audio triggers since forever. But this still leaves the Rpi’s worming right so can be turned on when playing starts or off again after a set delay to turn trigger off?

I have this setup in my Lumin’s and it works perfectly

Just want to say all this time later thank you for this, @RBM ! And to @DrCWO for being kind enough to let us do this.

I popped this into ChatGPT along with the fact that I have a Pi2AES (to figure out that I needed dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi-pro) , and not 2 minutes later I had my RooExtend happily pumping upsampled HQplayer to NAA on my RooExtend and thence via AES into my Yggdrasil lovely lovely music. All the things I want - a display, RooMax, AES in one device. Getting closer to being able to power on everything from RooControl. C’mon, this is great stuff!

One question - will my edit to /boot/config.txt be durable to upgrades to RooExtend?

Will be

Yes it stays intact
So feel free to test.

Hello, I’m using Rooextend on a Pi4. Loving all my little extensions

I’ve been looking for a way to control Roon via Siri voice commands. This solution uses RoonCommandLine and looks great: Roon Voice Commands with Siri | RoonCommand

Does the RooExtend raspberry pi box already have RoonCommandLine installed? Could I use it for this project? If it’s not already there, is there a way to add it?

Thanks!

Not yet, sorry

Good morning
I post here as I recently moved to Raspberry PI 4 to enjoy the use of rooADI.
Not sure if it is the relevant part of the forum, but I hope I can get some advice.
Is there any screen compatible with the use of rooExtend ?
I don’t necessarily need a touch screen, but it would obviously be a plus.
The idea behind this would be to display the cover of the ongoing playing album.
Thanks again for your help.
BTW rooADI is really performing so smoothly on my system

You can connect any HDMI screen at your Pi4. You will see the Roon Logo after Boot.

Using the Screen symbol above the volume slider (in my case blue as it is activated) you can select the “Chrome” display and start playback of the nice Roon Art.

I plan to add touch capabilities and a nice control GUI. First for rooExtend-Uníco (look here), later for the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2.

I guess I am now close to the final setup with rooExtend

I got an HDMI screen this morning, and all is working fine except one thing. No idea if this is linked to rooExtend or not, but browsing on the forum did not return anything relevant…

If I rename my room as follows, it’s perfectly fine and saved. However, if I reboot the PI 4, the setup is not remembered, and I am back to the original “Chrome” name. Maybe I missed something, but it would be nice to keep it as it was initially set up.

Finally, although it is not for me a major issue, as I am connected with LAN from my router, I just want to let you know that I have been unable to set up a Wi-Fi connection. My router is an Archer AX6000, with only WPA2-PSK[AES] encryption at 2.4 GHz and no WPA-PSK[AES] available. The PI 4 never appears, even from the early stages on my DHCP Client List. I can send you some logs if you are interested. Once again, no worry on my side.

After rooADI I am now going to move on AIDJ tomorrow morning to have some more fun!
Thanks again for your support.

Seems to be a Roon Issue. My software can’t see your change done in Roon so I have absolutely no control about what is happening here.

The WiFi thing is strange. Although it’s more stable to connect wired it should work. I guess you read the instructions on connecting via WiFi in the Quick Installation Guide.

  • Is your Router shown in the list of access Points on the rooExtend Service Page?
  • If yes have you selected it giving the right password and country?

I ran into a similar issue modifying the DietPi configuration to work with a web UI for roon instead of the Chromium web display. Roon Extension: Roon Web Controller v1.2.0 - #424 by Hong_Son

If you are comfortable modifying the Chromium start line and have the credentials make sure it does not start in incognito which is how it is running by default. This is why you have to register it each time. DM me if you want more details.

Thanks’ all this is already done. I integrated the webcontroller in my new rooScreen Roon Extension and it works. I still struggle a bit with the touch screen. It is an I2C type from Waveshare. They offer installation instructions but most of the files they mention aren’t available on my DietPi configuration.

But now tinkering is over for some time. Wednesday I drive to Munich populating my booth. Next the show till Saturday, returning late and Sunday morning driving to Lago di Garda for a 10 day break.

If I’m back I will continue
Here some first Fotos of my new baby

This is what I followed:

• Look for the WiFi created by Raspberry Pi with name “rooExtend” and connect to it.

Password is: 1234567890

• Open your Browser and go to http://rooExtend.local.

If you have trouble with that go to http://10.0.0.5

• In the list of available WiFis displayed, your WiFi should show up.

Your WiFi must operate at 2.4GHz and WPA-PSK. Raspberry Pi will not connect to your WiFi

access points if it does not run WPA-PSK encryption!

• Select your Wi-Fi, enter your password and country, and connect to it.

But I never got any wifi network connection proposal.
I could connect through LAN with 192.168.1.x and all is good.

Now I see
If you don’t see the WiFi you can’t connect to it.
