rooExtend – The easy start with Roon Extensions

rooExtend uses DHCP to get the IP-address. DHCP is normally supplied by your Router. Please check you DHCP settings in the router.

As rooExtend is an appliance I don’t offer SSH access. Please understand that offering this I will get a lot of support requests based on misconfiguration done by customers. I can’t support this so rooExtend is offered only as the provided image.

This is off topic here. Please delete your post and repost in the correct rooPlay thread.

I will answer immediately.

Hi @DrCWO

Can I deploy rooextend on my m4 Mac mini (eg RPI emulator or similar) ?

Or must it be only on an RPI device?

Hi @Jack_O_Donoghue,
please understand that I’m a one man company that doesn’t have a Callcenter for customer requests. If I were to offer anything more than just the plug-and-play rooExtend box and the image for the Raspberry Pi, I would drown in questions regarding installation and support.

So the answer is NO. Only rooExtend-Box or image for the Raspberry Pi.

I need a license key for rooMax reset. I had to reflash my sd card, and the RPi will not take the same license key. How do I do this?

Hello,

I purchased the rooExtend Bundle, but l am using a DIY Raspberry Pi installation.

The bundle license cannot be activated on a Pi, and therefore I would like to request a refund.

I have sent you my license code as a private message.

Please refund the purchase so I can buy the individual module licenses instead.

Thank you and best regards,

Bernd

Sorry for my late reply. I was in Vienna visiting the HighEnd Show :+1:

If you use the same Raspberry Pi after a re-flash the License key will work as it is bound to the physical device.
Using a different physical device you must first revoke the License on the previous device. After that you can re-use your License-Key on the new device.

Using the physically same RPi and it did not work please reboot the Pi and try to enter your License Key. Next get the System Log and e-mail it to info@definiteAudio.de together with your License Key so I can check.

This is correct. The bundle cannot be used with the RPi. It is an offer for the customers of the rooExtend-Box ONLY.

Please delete the License Key in your PM and mail it to info@definiteAudio.de. After reception I will start the refund process at Sellcodes.

To whom it may concern, after having failed to connect a turntable to ROON via rooUPnP I would like to connect it via USB to rooPlay. To realize this approach I identified two alternatives, which would fit to me: 1) Sonoro PLATINUM Automatic EAS, who has got an USB output. Does anybody know, if the Sonoro would be able to stream to ROON via USB output and rooPlay (installed on Raspberry Pi 4)? 2) Rega – Fono Mini A2D MM, who offers as well an USB output. Same question: does anybody know, if the Rega would be able to stream to ROON via rooPlay? What format does rooPlay accept (wav, flac, alac, aiff, …), upt to which data rate? Thanks a lot for your support, Roland

How can a turntable be connected to Roon via rooUPnP
I have no idea what you tried, sorry.

The manual of Sonoro PLATINUM Automatic EAS says it is USB 1.1 compatible, should work with rooPlay. I can’t tell with Rega – Fono Mini A2D MM but I expect it will work.

Most USB interfaces built into turntables aren’t exactly impressive. You’ll usually find only 16-bit/48 kHz support, with USB Audio Class 2 - offering higher sample rates -being a rarity.

If top-notch quality is what you’re after, take a look at the minidsp ADEPT. This works with rooPlay for sure.

Thanks for your response. I was indeed using the same RPi, and rebooted several times unsuccessfully. After I deleted some old extensions from prior rooextend installs, it reactivated. Don’t know for sure if that’s what did the trick, but thought you’d like to know.

Anybody managed to enable Roon Command Line in rooExtend version 3.5.3?

In my case it always returns to not-enabled state (and doesn’t work).

Is there a way to install the latest version of rooExtend (like 3.5.3 as noted above) on a SD card? Or should I start with the 3.4.0 image available for download and then wait when it updates?

Please start with 3.4.0. After that install this hotfix and the update to 3.5.x will come up next night.

I did not yet find time to build an image with 3.5.x

I need to know how Lisa can control the rooPlay volume for Spotify using her iPhone volume buttons?

OK, I am running rooExtend and rooPlay on an RPi 5 with a hifiberry dac+ adc pro usin gthe rooexttendOS downloaded here. I bought rooExtend/Play hoping to get something that was more stable than Jans Librespot extension which I have been using for years but its instability makes Lisa unhappy so I have been trying to add a very simply Spotify to Roon solution that whenever she pressed play in spotify it just worked. This is not quite there yet, requires her to set airplay, press play in Roon, and press play in Spotify. It is more resilient to network glitches, although I just had to restart the radio station, and does not require the entire pipe to be rebuilt by restarting spotify and then the roon radio station in exactly that order or it fails. With that said, now that she does not have to open roon as often she really wants the volume controlled from her iPhone. I cannot figure this out. the only thing that controls the volume in Roon is Roon. I cannot get airplay volume to impact it, the phone buttons (same thing really) Spotify volume if running on windows, I tried changing the properties of the audio end point but neither device volume or fixed volume impacts this… An earlier post says a future release will allow the volume control from the iPhone buttons with no lag but perhaps it has not been released? Perhaps I do not know how to configure? Bottom line, I am an audio file and I have 1000s of CDs in my library, a phono connected through rooPlay, speakers and headphone jacks all over the property and guest house, I love it. Unfortunately Lisa is married to Spotify and so it is really important that work seamlessly. For my family, Roon is a single pane of glass that does everything. Not only my highfalutin audiophile stuff. Roon needs to be a whole family solution not just a Dad’s toy. So I hope you build that awesome Spotify plugin you were talking about! In the mean time can someone tell me how to control rooPlay volume using iPhone buttons?

Hi, I purchased a rooWatch license. Flashed the latest image on a mSD card for rPi4. So far so good, the rPi4 boots, shows an IP address, the last line on the screen reads ‘Initializing XFRM netlink socket’.

I use a wired LAN connection, no WiFi.

However, the LAN connection appears unstable. I can intermittently reach the rooExtend page in my browser for a short time and the extension in Roon shows the same behaviour: It pops up for a short time and than disappears. Too short to open or configure anything.

I tried the SD card in another rPi4 and assigning a different IP address in my router, with the same result.

Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance!

Please get the system log and sent it to info@definiteaudio.de.
I will check what goes wrong here.

In the meantime please reboot your Roon Core and retry.

DrCWO (or anyone that knows), could you please remind me what the URL parameter is that I can append to the rooExtend IP address to reboot rooExtend (on a RPi if it matters)?

It was something like <rooextend-ip-address>?cmd=restart.

I had it saved as a bookmark, but I reinstalled Linux and forgot to save my bookmarks beforehand.

I use it infrequently, but it’s handy to have when needed.

I tried searching this topic, but am not finding it.

If you want to execute the command via the browser, use http://192.168.0.xx/chromiumRestart.html

If you want to use a Shortcut via iPhone use: Retrieve content from URL (in german it is “Inhalte von URL abrufen”). Replace the ip-adress with yours.

Thanks @StereJo , but I’m looking for the command to restart rooExtend itself, not the command to restart the Chromium browser used as a Roon Display on an HDMI connected monitor.
