well here is the answer to myself as I have managed to get playlists showed up. I did rename RoonApi again but also I forces to reinstal RoonBridge on RooExtend.

The other thing came up though. I can also attach smart playlist to the QuickKeys key (which is fantastic) but pushing the key does not start playback. Probably there is some isuue with focus etc. But since it is showing and can be attached maybe there is a way to make it start playing.

Anyway das Katastrophengebiet is very tiny now and I am moving toward satify customer. Still I shoud get some small discount when I will purchase rooMax, just for the hours spent

I just got rooEntend and Quick Keys and I am very disappointed.

Sorry for the trouble you got in. In nearly all installations the Playlists are visible right from the start. I heard of some few comments that is was necessary to rename RoonApi on the Roon Server. I never understood what this has to do with rooExtend. But seems that is can block something in the core as I have to use the Roon API for rooExtend. This is beyond my reach as developer using the Roon API. Sorry
I also have no explanation why you had to reinstall Roon Bridge within rooExtend.

Smart playlists are not yet supported by the Roon API. So the playlists will be shown in rooMax but not filled with content. This is something Roon has to implement in its API. Please contact the Roon support and ask for it.

Here is what I have done; just in case someone else has similiar conundrum:

Rename RoonApi folder to sometning else (I did not delete it; which, I know:), is magical thinking but I will never ever delete that file!!!)
I deleted all additional profiles in Roon leaving only mine.
And I reinstalled Roon Bridge (unpowering and powering back rooExtend)

Then playlists showed up.

Not sure if anyone else has come across this symptom with the quick keys device. In Roomax settings I have the energy saving mode set and the QK device switches off its display into energy save mode. But every now and again the QK device just powers off - needing me to restart it with the slider switch. Anyone else noticed this?

The device powers off after a long time. When this happens seems to be random to me. I have no chance to set this Power-Off-Time via software.

If this happens often and a short time after the last interaction please return the Controller and get a new one. I had one customer with this symptom and the new device worked as expected.

Hi -

RooMax is incredible. I picked one of these remotes up off eBay for a fraction of the cost, and it’s fabulous so far.

That said, I’m having a crazy time with my RPi4 running RooExtend. It seems to only offer the web admin page occasionally. It will play via RAAT or NAA without a problem, and the RooMax will work, but I can’t get to the web page (yes, I know the correct IP address, I can see it in my router). I am on 3.4.0 and I want to upgrade to 3.4.3 and I can’t reach the web interface at 192.168.0.206 (I have a DHCP reservation in my router, and that’s what’s assigned to the RooExtend). For what it’s worth the response is " This site can’t be reached 192.168.0.206 refused to connect." I guess it’ll autoupdate tonight.

Is there anything I can do short of waiting or rebooting and seeing if it works? I’m totally puzzled whether I have a bad SD card or there’s something wrong with the RPi or…?

I suspect that the browser you’re using prepends https:// to the IP address by default without you seeing it.

Please try entering the full “http://192.168.0.206”. That should work if everything else works.

Well, it upgraded overnight and it seems like it’s happy now. There was also a weird thing on my network where it was taking ~1 minute to get a wired DHCP lease, and RooExtend really didn’t like that and got caught in some loops - so in any case I think I’ve cured that.

A couple thoughts on features that occurred in the first day of use:

• i love the zone picker functionality (long center of wheel press to transfer, short to select), but I also like the speed of the zone buttons. Instead of having separate buttons for “select” and “transfer to”, is it possible to get a long press event on buttons, so you could have the same “kitchen zone” button function as select on a short press and “transfer to” on a long press (and show the check if it’s the active zone)?
• it would be great if you could have playlist events have the option to start shuffled (selected in the extension config, not from the remote), otherwise for a bunch of playlists I have to start it then go back to my shuffle button, then click next track
• I know that CLI integration is coming at some point, which is very exciting to say the least. Without being impatient - do you have a guess whether that is a “next 3 months” or “next year” thing, or is it utterly dependent on travel schedule and unpredictable?

This will be a bit of an effort as the software architecture was not made for this. But I will see what I can do in one of the next releases. I put it on my list.

One question - after a couple days of flawless performance, I’m now getting very strange behavior where my RooMax keeps disconnecting. I looked in the system logs, and I see some pretty strange behavior. Wonder if you can tell me what’s wrong / what Terminated: rooMax with code: 5 means and what I should do? Right now I do have the dongle plugged into the RPi4 directly, but I have an extension cable that will be here in a few days. What puzzles me is that I had perfect performance for several days from a decent distance before this happened.

One question - after a couple days of flawless performance, I’m now getting very strange behavior where my RooMax keeps disconnecting.

is a message from the API of the QuickKeys controller. It happens if you are too far away from the USB transceiver. The API ties to connect and failed. Please try to get closer to the USB dongle and report if the issues persits.

Ok, thanks - that’s what I figured — and feared! I’m sure I have too much interference, though I’m struggling to figure out why it worked well for a few days. I need to get the dongle away from my AV rack with an extension cord. Many thanks. Love this product, want it to work flawlessly!

rooMax is still limited to 99 playlists (plus “all”). My rooExtend is release 3.4.3 and rooMax release 1.0.0.

Moving playlists to different folders doesn’t help, and these folders are not visible in rooMax under playlists either.

A question… I like having volume limits on my main zone - my power amps are more than powerful enough to blow my sensitive speakers. So I like the idea of being able to push the speakers depending on content, but having some sort of “do you really mean it” functionality. Within the Roon UI paradigm this works well - “use the + button to go beyond -20db” is a good idea. But now that I’m using RooMax a lot, the volume limit is a hard limit for the device. Is there any way one could think of that there would be a “check” to see if you really meant it before being able to go beyond the comfort limit (not the device limit)? No idea if this is limited by the Roon API, and it may well be.

Many thanks, I adore this product. RooMax + HQPlayer + Holo Cyan 2 for the win! Just need Roon to fix the API to allow Smart Playlists, and @DrCWO to get around to CLI. But adore it all the same just as it is right now!

You better get some Line-level Attenuators (here as XLR) in front of your power amp.

If listening at -20 dB is already loud, you’re sacrificing more than 3 bits of your DAC resolution during playback. This isn’t a good idea at all for a satisfying high-resolution listening experience.

Regarding this I do not plan to add such a feature.

Not entirely sure I buy that. I’m upsampling via HQPlayer to DSD512, and running my Holo Cyan 2 DAC at unity gain into my Schiit Aegirs. That’s 30-40w of power into my 96db sensitivity Devore o/96. I have a pre-amp, but it’s far easier to leave it all the way over to max volume and use HQP to regulate volume. I understand why not everyone would want to use device limits for “normal / wife listening volume” and be able to choose to go on, but Roon implemented the limits for a reason, and I find them useful. I often listen at -6db to -10db. But I like to be reminded that it’s going to be loud and have the choice to go beyond - especially for high dynamic range music. Totally fine if you don’t want to implement. But I bet I’m not alone.

use HQP to regulate volume

So you use digital volume control. I did some research about Roon digital volume you can find here.

Coming from High resolution media digital volume is OK if the implementation was carefully done with dithering. I expect HQPlayer is perfect in this respect. But coming from 44/16 you loose resolution even if the DAC is unity gain

I often listen at -6db to -10db.

Then get a -6dB or -10dB Line Level Attenuator. This is one or one and a half bit more resolution. It’s not much money so you can try and find out if it gets better

I currently drive my 98dB sensitive full range horn speakers with the Topping A70 headphone amp
This can be done as the impedance of the full range drivers is 15Ohms (rising a bit to higher frequencies) and the amp delivers 17W at 16Ohms without any noise and distortion. A killer combination
