rooMax – Best wireless Roon remote ever!

At the moment you need a Raspberry Pi. Some day I plan to offer a x86 Linux image with Roon Core PLUS rooExtend. But at the moment I’m so busy with the new release that I have no time schedule for that.

This is [will be] a huge deal. Thank you - in advance - whenever you get to it.

How about the ability to make a key play a genre. I start my day by playing genre’s Jazz, Classical, etc. I would love Genre Keys

I Plan to integrate Roon-Commandline. After that it will be possible.

What is the roon command line? I would also love the roon aidj to be a bit better. It’s a 50 50 shot that it will play recommendations if they are classical. It would be awesome if it had awareness of my library 50k plus classical albums.

You can see more info here.

Is this a github project? where do I get it?

Hi,

I wonder if I can use the Roomax remote control to like, ban or add tracks to preset playlists while they are playing?

Hello,

My rooMax works very poorly when it is more than 6 feet from my rooextend box. Is there a solution to this? I suspect a very poor bluetooth connection, but not sure how to address this. Please advise.

I would implement it if I could but the Roon API did not offer this funcionality :cold_sweat:

It’s not wireless, but I just came across this configurable “remote” that looks like it would be perfect for multi-zone roon control. Figured this group would be interested.

I have a RooExtend box that came with all of the 90 day trials and I’m using RooMax and it’s working fine. I decided to add another Quick Keys remote, but this time I just purchased a Raspberry Pi 4 and flashed my own RooExtend on it. It shows up in Roon, but of course, no 90 day trials, so I bought a license for RooMax. I entered the license in the License Manager (of the new box) and it appears to have taken it, but the second RooMax has not shown up in Roon. Is there something else I need to do? I assumed the code for RooMax and the other extensions was present but waiting for a license. Is that right, or do I need to install RooMax separately.

Ok, I revoked the license and reflashed the card, then resubmitted the license and it showed up! Yay!

Does rooMax work with a Rasberry Pi 5? I saw somebody ask the same question back in 2024 but have not been able to find a recent answer. I have flashed a card with rooExtend v3.4.0 for ARMv8 and tried it in a pi5. The status light is solid green and I get “No Extensions Discovered” message in the roon extensions window.

Sorry, currently the image for rooExtend is not yet ready for Pi5.
I planned to update but this will take some more month till I find time.

I tried to contact you on your youtube but not reply.
I have a few question to ask:

  1. can I use a Raspberry Pi4 which is running Homeassistant to install rooMax ? because I saw you provide a full image to setup, can I keep home assistant and run rooMax?
  2. can I use this Raspberry Pi4 to connect with a Quick Keys and a MS Surface dial the same time?
  3. need I buy rooDial license and rooMax license to use both of the hardwares?
  4. I can’t find the rootMax subscription for a life time, what’s the price?
    Thank you.

Hi @APEX_LAU ,
I’m sorry, it seems I missed the notification from Youtube

The rooExtend Image is a appliance. Sou you need a separate Pi for running rooExtend and therefore rooMax.

You can run QuickKeys and Surface Dial (rooDial) at the same time in parallel on the rooExtend Raspberry Pi. They also can control different zones.

Yes

There is currently no subscription for rooMax only lifetime at the moment.

Probably not what you hoped for but I hope it helps you making your decision.

so If I need run both of them, which image need I download for my Raspberry Pi4 ?
As you say, I need buy two license: rooMax and rooDial, and I need setup them separately in roon?
