Roon 2.0 build 1480 not detecting audio devices on Mac mini (ref#LKGPIF)

Describe the issue

Problems with Roon version 2.0 (build 1480) - no audio devices detected on the network :
The version of Roon currently installed on a Mac mini M4 (Mac OS 15.1.1 - 24B2091) is version 2.0 (build 1470).
When I install version 2.0 (build 1480) none of the audio devices connected to my network are detected.

Describe your network setup

My router is Orange livebox 7 and I have 3 repeaters.

macOS 15 messed up security settings for quite many people, leading to device discovery issues. Lots of threads about this on the forum. Try this, it usually helps:

Navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

Thank you for your answer, I tried to do the suggested manipulation but the same issue persists.

It helped in nearly all cases, so worth a shot :frowning: I hope other fellow users or Roon staff next week can find the problem.

Thanks, again.

Mac mini speakers are awful. Until this gets fixed, I may try to connect a portable bluetooth speaker to my Mac mini and then the music will at least be tolerable. Then I can listen to music and not be annoyed. But, of course, this is only a kludge and not the solution.

Hi @Nicolas_HENNEQUIN,

Our diagnostics servers show RoonServer discovering what appears to be an ecosystem’s worth of devices - over 20 networked endpoints across multiple protocols are visible to this Mac Mini.

Do the audio devices populate in Roon Settings → Audio and then disappear, or are they never visible on this Mac Mini?

Once you’ve verified that Local Network access is not restricted for Roon in Privacy & Settings, you can additionally add incoming connections to the safelist for RoonServer and RAATServer in the Mac Firewall. It’s unlikely this will resolve the issue, but it’s best practice.

Verify that multicast forwarding and IGMP snooping are enabled in the router settings. Where is the Mac Mini RoonServer connected in this topology?

Update all your devices to the latest available build. You will need to repeat any steps you have taken in Privacy & Security after updating as settings will possibly have reverted due to updating.

Are these network audio devices visible in other apps on the same Mac controllers or server?

I had exact the same thing, rebooting and toggling the “local network” did not help and after an hour of trying, scanning network etc I disconnected from the server , reboot the Mac mini (which is the server) reconnected to the server again and suddenly the devices were back

I have no explanation why this worked, but for me, the devices are now back
Hope you have the same luck as me

Carl, BOOM!! That was the problem. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your jumping in to help solve this big issue that had absorbed a ton of time, sweat and frustration. And it was so easy. Roon should flag this somewhere in the Knowledge Base, or better yet, the release notes. But, luckily I had you!

When you’re in Dallas, I’m buying the beers. Same when I get to London!

Best,

Bruce

I’m glad it helped, but be aware that it’s possible you may have to do it again after restarting the RoonServer, installing a Roon update, or similar. It’s a bit unclear.

Roon Labs is investigating the issue. Might be in Roon, in macOS, or a combination. Apple did make some very late security changes when they released Sequoia and it’s affecting other software as well.

Thanks. Noted. No problem so far after rebooting the app, and shutting down the computer, but understood. Hopefully any further roon updates will include the problem/solution in release notes so everyone is informed.

Yeah, for some people it seems to stick after toggling, for others maybe not. I myself never had the slightest problem after upgrading to Sequoia (but I don’t run the server on Mac, just the control app). It’s not quite clear what the mechanisms really are.

Hi @Dirk_Vleugels,

The team has an open ticket to implement better handling of MacOS Sequoia’s network security. For now, restarting RoonServer or re-toggling Local Network access for RoonServer in your Privacy & Security settings are the known workarounds.

@Nicolas_HENNEQUIN, are you still encountering issues?

Hi,
I can confirm that I still encounter the same problems !
As soon as I update my roon server on my mac mini to the roon version 2.0 (build 1480 or 1483) it no longer detects any devices on the network.
When I reinstall roon version 2.0 (build 1470) all devices are visible again.
I don’t know what to do to resolve the problem.

Hey @Nicolas_HENNEQUIN,

Our team is taking a closer look into your case - we advise against reverting back to prior Roon builds in the meantime, thank you! :raised_hands:
