· Subject: Roon 2.67 (Build 1661) crashes immediately on startup on Windows 10 (Intel HD 520)
Hello Roon Support,
I have a clean installation of Roon 2.67 (Build 1661) on a Windows 10 laptop, but Roon never opens its GUI.
System
* Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (19045)
* Intel Core i5-6200U
* Intel HD Graphics 520
* Intel graphics driver 22.20.16.4718 (LG OEM driver)
* LG Gram laptop
Symptoms
* RoonServer starts successfully.
* RAATServer starts successfully.
* RoonAppliance starts successfully.
* Roon.exe starts, but no window ever appears.
* The processes remain running.
Roon log
The log shows normal startup. It reaches:
Creating OpenGL Device Target
and continues with image cache and NTP initialization. There are no obvious errors in the log.
Process Monitor
Process Monitor shows normal activity with SUCCESS results. There are no missing DLLs, no ACCESS DENIED, and no PATH NOT FOUND errors.
Windows Event Viewer
Windows records:
* Event ID: 1000
* Faulting application: Roon.exe
* Faulting module: ntdll.dll
* Exception code: 0xc0000409
What I have already tried
* Clean reinstall of Roon.
* Deleted LocalAppData\Roon cache.
* Ran Roon as Administrator.
* Verified OpenGL 4.5 using GLView Pro.
* Attempted to update Intel graphics driver, but LG blocks installation of the generic Intel driver.
* Process Monitor analysis.
* Windows Event Viewer analysis.
Could you please advise what causes the crash with exception 0xc0000409 on startup? Is this a known issue with Intel HD Graphics 520 or the LG OEM graphics driver?

Issue solved by switching from Windows to Ubuntu

Glad to hear you’re up and running - thanks for letting us know!

For what it’s worth, the crash signature you captured (0xc0000409 right after “Creating OpenGL Device Target”) points toward the graphics driver rather than Roon itself, and the LG-locked OEM driver for the HD 520 would be our first suspect. So if you ever decide to go back to Windows on that laptop, that’s where we’d start looking - just open a new thread and we’ll pick it up from there.
