Roon and Violectric DAC

Hello Rooners, does anyone have any experience of using Roon (via RPi and Hifiberry) and a Violectric DAC? I have tried with USB, Coaxial and Optical connections with no joy; any help or guidance will be welcome.

What does “no joy” mean?

I cycled the inputs on the Violectric DAC, but had no output via the attached amp, when I reconnected my Chord Hugo it produced an output on all of the inputs above.

You’re not mentioning what Violectric and what Hifiberry you are using and how you connect them, but since you’re using Hifiberry, I assume you didn’t connect the DAC directly to the RPi’s USB output. Any reason you haven’t started with that?

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I did start with the USB from the 3b Pi, then moved on to the Coaxial and Optical out from the hb digital. With all of the connections to the V800 I failed to get any sound from the attached amp, I’m fairly certain that I’m failing on something simple.

You should try connecting the DAC to a computer through USB and using a standalone playback app like Foobar2000. If that doesn’t work, then it’s either the DAC or the amp.

I will do and report back, many thanks.

Hifi Berry OS and Roon Bridge, or Ropieee, or what is installed on the RPi?

Apologies, I have not been very good at providing the information needed for remote problem solving!

There is Ropieee installed on this Pi3b and my other two Pi4’s they all work wonderfully until the 3b today, when I decided to “experiment” with the Violectric V800 that I normally use with a stand alone rig using a Brennan B2 and a Violectric HP Amp.

And you do have the HiFiBerry (whichever) HAT properly selected as i.e. my screenshot?

Or/and the Audio USB connection?
Then you see nothing in Roon’s ‘Settings’ - ‘Audio’ tab to enable?

Need more info…

Well, apologies for the tardy response; and thank you for your help. I have veered off at a tangent and thanks to guidance here I now have my Chord Hugo fully integrated into Roon using the USB out from the RPi, previously I had used the Coaxial out from the hifiberry.

I think that the Chord sq is better for my ears/usage scenario via the USB, so I am putting the Violectric back into the tinkering pile for the moment.

Nearly two years later I have now re-upped the Violectric DAC and Amp and attached to the USB out from one of my RPi 4’s, it appears straight away in Audio (via settings in Roon) and it sounds wonderful via Grado headphones.

Thank you for the input, time and thoughtfulness.
