Hi @thorner.philippe,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. We have been tracking an issue with Sequoia that this behavior may be related to. If it is the same problem you can solve it by toggling on Local Network access for RoonServer in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. If it already looks toggled on flip it off and then one again.
Let us know whether this resolves your issue.
Hi Daniel,
thanks for your reply but as I wrote, I do not use the network. My Mac mini is my Roon core and my Roon Server. I just connect an external USB drive to my Mac mini. Before I had no troubles but with Sequoia it does not work anymore. I cannot select any folders on my USB drive.
I checked the Local network, it was already toggled. I flipped it off and then on again. It did not work. Note that Roon has access to removable volumes too. So I do not understand.
If you have any other suggestions, please tell me I will try them as well.
All the best,
Philippe
Hey @thorner.philippe,
You may need to review the drive/folder share permissions via your Mac system settings. Here’s more info and steps on how to confirm proper access:
I hope this helps!
Hi Benjamin,
Unfortunately it does not help.
For your information, all free popular softwares can read the music from my external USB hard drive (Apple Music, VLC, INA, Aural player, …). I have also tested JRiver 33, it works perfectly.
The only software that cannot read my music from my USB hard drive so far is Roon, which is the most expensive by the way.
I run sometimes a virtual Linux machine (Ubuntu server) under sequoia (via UTM). I did the test with Rhythmbox and it worked perfectly. My USB hard drive is recognized by the virtual machine and Rhythmbox (linux music player) can read the music from my external USB hard drive.
If you need more details or screenshots to solve this problem, feel free to ask me.
All the best,
Philippe
Hey @thorner.philippe,
Our servers are having trouble seeing your instance of Roon Server, and so we’re unable to enable diagnostics for further investigation, as a workaround, could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Another area to investigate is your Mac firewall - what happens if you temporarily disable this firewall, do you experience the same issue?
Thank you
Hi,
I sent all the log files (Roon, RAAT, RoonServer and last one I do not remember the name).
firewall is inactive on my Mac mini. So issue is not caused by firewall.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Philippe
Hey @thorner.philippe,
Sorry for any confusion here - could you send over the full logset in a .zip file?
we’ll also need a more detailed description of your network, and how your Mac is connected to your router/network - do you have any third party antivirus software or VPNs active?
Thank you!
Hi Benjamin,
I wrote “no network, Roon core is my Mac” because I use my iPhone as router. My iPhone is connected to the Mac mini via a lightning-USB-C cable. I share my mobile connection with the Mac. I use sometimes WiFi to share the Internet connection.
Note that this configuration worked perfectly on my previous MacBook Air M1 with Sonoma.
I have no VPN, no antivirus. The third party software I use is ntfs-3g+Mac fuse+Mounty to write on my NTFS external USB hard drive (my music files are on that drive). If I mount the drive with Mounty, Roon does not see it. Thus I cannot choose it as music storage.
On the screenshot in my first post, when you see in “Choose music storage folder” the drive “Seagate Expansion Drive”, the USB hard drive was mounted automatically by OS X in read only mode.
In other words, when I use Roon I do not mount the drive with mounty. The drive is automatically mounted by OS X in read only mode.
For the logset, I uploaded them via File Uploader.
Kind regards,
Philippe
Just to complete my last post from today, I uninstalled completely Mounty, MacFuse, … and the problem remains. Roon cannot read my USB drive (file system is NTFS).
I also precise that, I did the test with a USB key in FAT32 format, it works, Roon can read the key.
Thanks,
All the best,
Philippe
Hi @thorner.philippe ,
Unfortunately, NTFS is known to be problematic with Macs, some users have gotten it to work in the past with another driver, but NTFS usage on Mac is not something that we regularly test for or support. If you want to try the other NTFS driver, I will link it below (note that we have no affiliation with this tool):
I wish I had better news here, but if the driver doesn’t work or you don’t want to try it, copying the data off the drive and reformatting it to exFAT, or using a separate drive non-NTFS formatted just for the music would be the next best course of action.
Hi Noris,
thanks for your reply. I started to save my music last week end in order to format my drive to exFAT. I will test it again this week end.
I have no issue with NTFS format so far, only with Roon. Perhaps I will have the same issue with another app in the future. That is why I decided to reformat my drive to exFAT.
All the best,
Philippe
