Description of Issue
Originally I ran my Roon Core on a Surface Pro 7. I just built a NUC10 i5 ROCK and got all the settings up and working on the OS. I loaded Roon for PC onto my Surface pro 8. When I go to activate it, the Roon screen comes up for 3-5 seconds then disappears.
Task manager does not show it running.
I have done as many of the potential fixes as I can find on these boards, (smb on/off etc) nothing working on the Surface.
I ran Roon on the previous Core Surface Unit and selected a new Core location, and it then crashed.
I loaded ARC onto my Pixel 7 pro and it connected playing through the phone.
How can I get the Roon App to work on my Surface Pro?
UPDATE: I thought I would try the Roon app on my Fire 10 tablet that I used to use with my previous core. It asked me to update but wouldn’t respond to ok so I closed it, asked me to change my core, I then picked my audio output (Bluesound Node) and it showed that it was loading the album I had listened to last night through ARC on my phone, then it froze and finally crashed and closed. Now the app just freezes and closes.
RESOLVED: Reinstalled to the Core from the OS screen and all remotes now work.
if this is a new NUC?ROCK , first make sure its working , easiest way is to plug into the HDMI port with a screen and reboot you should get a welcome screen
Also check the app on a different device say a phone , see if you can connect there
One quick check is the Firewall settings , there should be 2 settings
In addition make sure that ROCK is up to date (the download image isn’t the latest version and probably needs to update right away). If you have any remote that doesn’t crash you can do it from there. Else going to the ROCK admin web page and clicking the reinstall button for the OS should probably trigger it
Mike, thanks for the suggestions. The NUC is brand new, and I can see and use it from my phone and my Fire Tablet using ARC, but it only plays locally.
All my firewalls are down, I am totally exposed right now but figure I will start putting them back in place once I get this sorted.
Suedkiez, you nailed it. I ran reinstall from the OS screen in my browser and the Roon app is working on all devices. Thank you very much for your assistance.
Paging @support: As you know, recent remote versions have started to crash when using older Core versions. Apparently not just remotes on Apple devices (you know the many threads about this recently) but on Windows as well, see above. Bad enough if it occurs because a Core somehow got stuck on an older version, but worse when it’s the first thing that happens after downloading and installing ROCK because the download image is not sufficiently recent. How to update a RockOS core is not obvious at all if all remotes crash and you can’t even get to Settings > About.
