Describe the issue
Hi Team, Issue first identified as I could not see any music devices in Roon app. In trying to solve this I have deleted and reinstalled the app and when trying to connect to server which is on a Nucleus (Version 1 Build 259, serial 54B2038B9A26), the app cannot see the device, however I can click on configure OS device and see the Nucleus. All elements of this page can be operated and have been refreshed. When I return to the "looking for server "page the server cannot be found and the install process offers to install on this Mac.
Looking at your logs, we can see that your Nucleus is operating normally. This indicates that the issue is likely originating from your remote devices or local network configuration.
To help us narrow this down, please try the following steps:
Direct IP Connection: Please try to connect directly using your Nucleus’s IP address from your Remote (in your case, it is 192.168.0.58).
Apple Device Permissions: Please ensure that local network access is enabled for the Roon app on your Mac/Apple devices (usually found in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network).
Network Check: Double-check that your remote devices and the Nucleus are connected to the exact same network and subnet.
Router Settings: Make sure that nothing is blocking IGMP/Multicast traffic (this is usually a setting within your router's administration page).
Simplify Network: If you have any network switches in your setup, please try bypassing them temporarily to see if the connection is restored.
Please let us know if any of the above steps help resolve the issue.
Direct IP Connection: Please try to connect directly using your Nucleus’s IP address from your Remote (in your case, it is 192.168.0.58).
Result: Can do - see Nucleus Status page with all areas looking ok
2. Apple Device Permissions: Please ensure that local network access is enabled for the Roon app on your Mac/Apple devices (usually found in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network).
Result - Local network access enabled - can see two roon app lines - both sliders are on
3. Network Check: Double-check that your remote devices and the Nucleus are connected to the exact same network and subnet.
Result - double checked all devices on same network and can be seen from the router
4. Router Settings: Make sure that nothing is blocking IGMP/Multicast traffic (this is usually a setting within your router’s administration page).
Result - Cannot see this setting in the router admin - running IPv4 and IPv6, under content sharing can see that DLNA server is enabled. Dynamic DNS, No services running, no port forwarding
5. Simplify Network: If you have any network switches in your setup, please try bypassing them temporarily to see if the connection is restored.
Result - no switches in the setup.
Other observations - System has been running fine until about 6 weeks ago, running zones and connecting to multiple music devices. Then could not see music devices so deleted apps and reinstalled. Now cannot see Roon server when reinstalling app on remote devices.
Thank you for sticking with us through this troubleshooting process.
Since you can successfully access the Nucleus Web Administration page (Configure Roon OS) but the Roon app remains stuck on “Looking for your Roon Server,” it strongly points to the discovery protocol (multicast) being blocked specifically at the Mac level.
Sometimes, macOS experiences a permissions glitch where “Local Network” access appears to be granted for an app in the settings, but the operating system is still silently blocking the connection in the background.
Let’s try forcing macOS to refresh this specific permission:
On your Mac, navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
Find Roon in the list and toggle the switch to the OFF position.
Restart your Mac completely.
Once your Mac has rebooted, go back to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and toggle Roon back to the ON position.
Launch the Roon app and check if it can now discover your Nucleus.
Could you please give this a try and let me know if the Nucleus successfully pops up?
Your last suggestion to force a reset of permissions has worked!
However, there are now two issues as follows:
The Roon App on iPhone and PC cannot see any audio devices, and when directed to add audio devices, there are no devices in the list. This is despite the fact that I can see these devices on the local network. The devices include a Sonos speaker, a Marantz music server, and a PS Audio Sprout which connects directly to the nucleus by HDMI. I can access the Admin settings page of the Marantz via the IP address and see the Sonos on the Network but cannot see the PS Audio Sprout.
Roon Arc can load on one iPhone, but advises there is an issue with the Roon Server - it is online but there is an issue preventing access, and on another iPhone the Roon App loads, finds the Nucleus and provides data from, for example the playlists, however the play button does not respond and the title selected does not play.
Can you please give this further thought and provide your insights to assist with a solution.
Thanks for the update! Apologies if you’ve already tried this, but after getting your mac to connect, could you reboot your mobile device and see if you’re able to connect afterward?
When you enter this error state, could you access your Roon Settings > Roon Arc from another device and review if there are any error codes under ‘advanced’?
