Description of Issue

Description Of Issue
Issue is that Roon app on MacPro indicates an update is available. Update has been downloaded and unit indicates to click here to relaunch, doing so does not update the Roon app. The app shuts downs and fails to relaunch. Upon relaunch, the same message is presented.

I read about this issue and that is an issue since 2020. The tips solving this issue just don’t work. When I click on Update everything and the Roon app closes, I expect that the app updates itself.
The solutions presented here are just downloading the app from the roon site and install it over the old version. But imo that is not a solution.

Does anybody know why Roon doesn’t fix this issue?

Download one or the other and drag and drop the file in the .dmg to the Applications folder. Say yes when it asks to replace. Also make sure Roon or RoonServer is not running before you replace.

Your server files will not be harmed by replacing the app.

This should get you to the latest version.

Hello ffk,

Thanks, and I know how a mac works and how to install applications.
But usually when you have an app running and it says it has an update, you start the update process, the app closes, installs itself and start up again.
Roon gives the impression that it does this, but it doesn’t work.

your solution is just not a solution that makes sense and I don’t understand why Roon doesn’t fix this. It is a bit annoying.

I’ve had exactly what you described happen on a remote Mac, it would download the app, say it installed, restart the app and then it would say there was an update for the same app.

It would not update.

I believe it is a user permission error that is macOS related and not roon.

Do you have multiple user accounts on that Mac? Are they all admins? Did or have you restored any user apps or related things from a Mac backup or messed with any user permissions?

These “may” mess up roons ability to replace the app when it does an update.

I futz with things, so I know for a fact, my situation was one I created at some point while futzing.

Hmm. I understand what you say. But to say that this is mac OS related in stead of Roon, I don’t know. I have multiple accounts, but the one I am logged in now, is the admin. And Roon isn’t running in the other account, because I am only logged into the admin one.

I dont fuzz much with user permissions. It would be nice if someone from Roon could answer, because it is a little annoying to download the app, close the app, install the app and start the app every time there is an update.
