Whenever I start up Roon on my Windows 11 machine, I see it loading for a moment but it never starts up. I do however see Roon.exe in the Task Manager. The Roon Server starts up just fine. I see no indications of any errors in the generated log files.
Describe your network setup
My machine is connected via ethernet to a Netgear switch hub, which then connects to a Sky internet router. It is set to a private network in my ethernet settings. I also use Tailscale for work, but it is turned off.
Occasionally it will start up on my Windows machine, but seems a bit random. Just now it started up, I then closed it and tried to reopen, which failed.
I’ve also been checking process manager, but don’t really see anything of any relevance.
Looking at the generated logs, whenever it fails to open the last log reads: “fetching time from NTP server”, followed by a bunch of stats. On the successful launch it got past this point and logged out a bunch of WGL logs.
Finally figured out the cause. It was Malwarebytes. Or more specifically the feature “Advanced script and fileless protection” under malware protection. Seems like even with all the Roon folders in the allow list, it does something behind the scenes that stops Roon from loading occassionally?
