Roon app on iPhone experiencing server connectivity issues post-update (ref#EV8R9W)

What app are you having the slowness issue with?

· Roon

What kind of performance/speed issue are you experiencing?

· Can't connect to search or search takes a long time to complete

Please try to reboot your Roon Server

· No, the issue is still the same even immediately after a reboot

Please try to reboot your networking gear (Router/Switches/etc.)

· No, the issue is still the same even after a reboot

Is there any change in behavior if you try to navigate to Roon Settings -> Library and set both Background and On-Demand Audio Analysis to Throttled or Off?

· No, the issue is still the same

Does the issue happen on multiple Roon Remotes (controllers) or just one?

· I only have one Roon remote to test with

Please try to restart your Roon Remote (controller) app

· No, the issue is still the same even after a restart

What is the operating system of your Roon Remote (controller)?

· iOS

Reinstall Mobile Roon Remote App

· No, I am still having the issue even after reinstalling

Router Domain Name System (DNS) change

· I was able to change my router's DNS servers but it did not help

What is the operating system of your Roon Server host machine?

· Nucleus

Which model Nucleus do you have?

· Nucleus+ Rev B

Timestamp of issue occurrences

· Every time I try to listen to music. Started immediately after current upgrade to Roon

Describe the issue

After last update: when starting Roon app on iPhone it says the server is not available for around 30-60 seconds, it starts normally and then it randomly stops playing and you see the app trying to reconnect, it’s like low bandwidth streaming problems, sometimes the delay is a few seconds other times it’s 5+ minutes. The only change is the update. All components ( other than iPhone) are hardwired Ethernet. Internet connection is 2.5 gig fiber. Network trace routes to the first hop are sub ms with no lost packets.
Nucleus is reinstalled. Pings to the Nucleus are consistent also without packet loss.

Describe your network setup

2.5g fiber to Orbi 770 router. 10g Ethernet switch to 1g local switch at the nucleus.
10g local switch at the player (Linn Akurate DSM) WiFi 7 mesh to iPhone.

Hello @Matt_Jost

Thank you for reaching out, and I apologize for the connection drops and delays you are experiencing on your iPhone after the recent update.

To ensure we are troubleshooting the correct software and have a clean slate, could you please clarify a few details and check a couple of router settings?

1. App Confirmation & Reinstallation

  • Which specific app are you using? Are you experiencing this instability with the standard Roon Remote app, or the Roon ARC app?
  • Just to double-check the automated form, have you already tried completely deleting the app from your iPhone, restarting your phone, and then performing a fresh installation from the App Store?

2. Network Settings Since your Nucleus is hardwired but the iPhone is on a Wi-Fi 7 mesh, the router might be filtering the discovery traffic:

  • Wi-Fi / Client Isolation: Please ensure your iPhone is connected to your primary network, not a “Guest” network, and verify that any “Client Isolation” or “AP Isolation” settings are disabled.
  • IGMP Snooping: Please check your Orbi’s LAN settings for IGMP Snooping (or IGMP Proxying). If it is currently disabled, please enable it (or vice versa). Orbi routers sometimes mishandle the multicast traffic Roon uses to maintain a connection, and toggling this setting often resolves discovery delays.

3. Timestamps for Diagnostics If the issue persists after checking the above, please reproduce the issue and note the exact local date and time when the app loses connection or stops playing (e.g., Feb 23 at 2:15 PM). Please share this timestamp here so we can activate diagnostics and check your Nucleus logs for that specific moment.

Looking forward to your reply so we can get your system running smoothly again!

Hi @Matt_Jost,

We wanted to check back in on this thread to see if you were still experiencing connectivity issues.

Can you please elaborate on where your server is connected within the topology you’ve described?

Roon relies on sustained throughput that ping tests have a hard time testing. Our recommendation is to isolate network components one at a time by hardwiring the Nucleus, remotes, and endpoints to a single unmanaged switch and/or forcing the WiFi to a single band (2.4GHz). Add back mesh nodes until you can reproduce any dropouts or disconnections and let us know an approximate timestamp.

We’ll watch for your reply. Thank you!
