Describe the issue

Roon app says server offline. Lots of ram being used (14+ gigs) by roon appliance - massive activity on the OS drive.

Describe your network setup

Network is all unifi but at this stage I am only running roon on the same PC that the server is on to see if it will work for me.

I am assuming that there is something that its hitting when scanning the metadata that is tripping it up, but I do not know where to look for the log files to see what the problem is. At this stage I have added a small portion of my library to it, and it consists mostly of stuff obtained online so the quality of tags etc is pretty terrible with lots of mistakes like id2 tags on non mp3 files and other issues that happen with randomly sourced music files.
This is currently probably about 300000 files I have added in these folders which is a small portion of my collection so if this is a library size problem then I dont think that it will work for me.

Hello @RICHARDM-S,

Thank you for the details. We’ve checked the diagnostic data from your account and didn’t see any signs of high memory usage or unusual activity. It appears that Roon was recently reinstalled — please note that when Roon is reinstalled, all previous logs are wiped, so we can only analyze data generated after the reinstall.

To investigate this further, please reproduce the issue once more, note the exact date and time (including your timezone) when it happens, and let us know here. Once you do, we’ll review the fresh diagnostic data from your system.

It might be because I tried installing the server on another computer that also has music on it. I didnt realize that it was limited to one server on the free trial so never activated the license on that one. The PC that was having the issues has the name DESKTOP10, the one that i never finished installing it on is DESKTOP11.

Hey @RICHARDM-S,

Thanks for the additional information! From a fresh diagnostic report, I do see some error traces around the following content:

Debug: [music/storage] importing auxfile 67:0:VA/T/Top Of The Pops/Top Of The Pops 1964 (FLAC)/51Vi8VD3nBL._SS500_.jpg from \Music\Full Albums
Debug: [music/storage] importing file 67:0:VA/T/Top Of The Pops/Top Of The Pops 1987 (FLAC)/TOTP-1987-18 Black - Wonderful Life.flac from \Music\Full Albums
Debug: [music/storage] importing file 67:0:VA/T/Top Of The Pops/Top Of The Pops 1987 (FLAC)/TOTP-1987-19 Suzanne Vega - Luka.flac from \Music\Full Albums

If you temporarily remove the ‘Top of the Pops’ content altogether, do you still run into issues?

Thank you!

Hi @RICHARDM-S,

We wanted to check in to see if removing the album identified in the post above helped reduce indexing/analysis churn.

Additionally, please navigate to Settings → Library and select “Clean Up Library.”

Please let us know if this helps.

Sorry got sick for a while there.

It totally stopped responding and when restarted had no database, so I am going thru adding in smaller chunks and it seems to be doing ok so far.

Have configured the backup so if it fails then I will be able to revert back hopefully to the one before it died.

Where is the log file that can identify what its stopping on?
