Describe the issue

My Roon App is showing the blue scanning circle constantly.

I have 2 storage devices and the one states “scanning now” and the other one doesn’t.

I’ve read on other threads that you may be able to check logs/servers to see why this may be happening.

Can you support this please.

Describe your network setup

BT Broadband

Direct Ethernet connection to MacBook Air M1 running Roon Server and Roon App.

I use iPhone mobile as Roon remote.

Hey @Steve_Lewis1,

Thanks for writing in!

Are you making any edits to files within your storage device while Roon is scanning the folder?

What happens if you try pausing any active file operations and manually forcing a rescan in Settings → Storage.

It may also be worth scanning your drives for any corrupt files - you can also check in Roon via Roon Settings > Library > Skipped Files

If you haven’t yet, I’d also stop Roon Server and reboot both your server as well as your storage device and see if the same issue occurs.

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

@benjamin
I’m not doing any edits at the moment.
I’ve restarted the Roon Server by exiting the app and ‘quitting’ the Roon icon in the Mac menu bar but it’s still scanning when I restart.
There’s no skipped files showing.
Forcing a rescan from Settings/Storage doesn’t solve the problem either.
Here’s a screenshot when I double-click the spinning circle.
The second screenshot is when I view Settings/Storage so you can see this is only happening on one location.

Hey @Steve_Lewis1,

Thanks for the additional information!

Based on a fresh diagnostic report from your server, we’re seeing potential errors in relation to the following album:

Various Artists - VA - NME - The 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time

If you remove this from your original folder, do you still run into issues scanning?

Thank you - this is interesting!
That album/folder was on the problem “scanning now” storage but as that was nearly full I’ve added another SSD.
I followed the instructions in the Roon Help as shown in the following screenshot:

The album/folder is now on the new SSD which I’ve added and is not a problem.

As the album/folder is no longer on the problem storage I can’t remove/delete it.

Not sure what’s the best thing to do now/next.

Hi @Steve_Lewis1,

Is the scanning still going on?

Hi @daniel
I took the bull by the horns (maybe a bit of a risk).
I disabled the two existing storage locations and logged out of Roon app and Quit the Roon Server.
I renamed both locations (slightly) and then opened the Roon app - which restarts the Roon Server.
In Settings/Storage I then added two ‘new’ folders and waited for everything to complete.
It did a great job of importing with all my ‘edits’.
It now looks like the following - with no spinning blue circle.

I’ve added ‘extra’ files and tgat worked so if it stays like this then I’ll ’remove’ the 2 x disabled storage locations.
