For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.
· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.
Describe the issue
I have set up a Roon nucleus + at a second home (Nucleus titan at the first home). I decided to open a second account to connect to the second nucleus server. However, my Roon app has been unable to recognize or find the nucleus server, despite rebooting all the devices. fixing the firewalls, reinstalling the App, and attempting to access Nucleus web UI (followed the steps but nothing happened). When I look at my router site, it is identifying an IP address (192.168.68.50). for the Nucleus. However, my router IP is 192.168.71.250. I assume this is causing the problems with the connections, but I don't know what to do
Describe your network setup
tp deco router connected by ethernet to nucleus. Roon app on iPad
Did you assign the Nucleus a static IP of 192.168.68.50? If so it’s now in the wrong subnet for your router. Temporarily give the iPad a static IP of, say, 192.168.68.1. You should then be able to see the Nucleus web UI and reset it to use DHCP.
If the Nucleus was never assigned a static IP then you may have two DHCP active servers, which is more serious.
Can you please try to connect the display and keyboard to the nucleus and boot it up ?
After it boots up please hit “Enter” button then type “resetnetwork” and hit enter again.
Please observe what will it show to you next. It should show an IP it should be reachable at. Please enter that IP address in browser and let us know if that is opening admin panel for nucleus ?
If the IP has not changed and is still out of expected range please let us know the exact model of your Deco router and we’ll let you know where to check IP assignments.
Thanks for the helpful comments. After doing the above recommendations, the IP address did not change and remained out of range. I’m currently using a TP link deco BE63 Tri-band BE10000 mesh system.
Do you happen to have a USB → Ethernet adapter around? Is the behavior the same if you try to use that instead of the on-board Ethernet? Where exactly is the Nucleus connected, to one of the Deco satellites? Are they set up so that each satellite is it’s own subnet? I would try plugging the Nucleus into the primary router as well.
This is the screen that I see when I hook up the Roon to the monitor. When I hit enter, enter the command “ resetnetwork”, and hit enter again, no message comes up.(the screen remains unchanged.)
We’re not seeing any attached screenshots, could you please re-upload them?
To double down on what @noris asked above - do you have multiple subnets active in this local network? How is the Nucleus connected to your primary router? Give that a try and reboot your router / Nucleus.
@Giles_W also makes a good point - had you set the Nucleus+ to be on a static IP? If so, you can switch it back to use DHCP which should help.
Here’s more info on accessing the webUI of your Nucleus:
This is a message that I get on my screen. When I hit enter or try to put in the command, nothing happens. Additionally, when I enter the roon OS web UI into my computer again, I’m unable to access any information.(I get a message that I’m unable to access the server.
My nucleus is plugged by ethernet into the primary router. I’ve also tried it on Secondary router. I do not believe I have multiple subnets going on this local network. I have to state that much of this is new to me. I don’t have much experience with network connectivity being a 64 year-old old guy.
Thanks for the additional info! To triple check, these are the steps you’ve attempted:
Connect the Nucleus to a monitor or TV via HDMI.
Connect a USB keyboard to the Nucleus.
Power on the Nucleus and let it boot.
Press ENTER
Type resetnetwork
Press ENTER
If nothing is happening when using the keyboard, it may be worth testing a different USB cable or port on the Nucleus, or test out using a different keyboard altogether - if at all possible.
Do you also happen to have an ISP modem/router combo unit? Since the command doesn’t trigger any change, I wonder if both your rotuer and your ISP unit is performing DHCP routing, and that is what is showing up as the other IP. Usually, one can call their ISP and ask them to put the ISP modem/router into “Bridge Mode” to ensure that it only acts as a modem and not a router as well.
Thanks for the advice. I just hooked my nucleus up to the modem directly, and that seemed to work! I will try your suggestion and put the modem and router into bridge mode.
