Describe the issue
I did an upgrade while in roon app and then the app could not find the server. The server is a sonictransporter CDR version 2.7. I am using spectrum 1G service and my home computer is a windows 11. Both phone (S23) and Sonictransport are on same subnet and have rebooted everything and restarted roon server on Sonictransport. Tried scanning the sonictransport address but still doesnt find.
Describe your network setup
Spectrum cable modem. Eternity connection to Sonictransport. Spectrum wifi to S23. Windows firewall and windows defender.
Hi @md73, welcome to the community. Since this started right after the upgrade on your SonicTransporter, I’d like to confirm whether the server is still healthy on the device itself or whether Roon Remote is no longer able to discover it on the network.
First, please open the SonicTransporter’s web interface and verify that RoonServer is running there, then try a manual restart of RoonServer from that interface if you have not already done so. If the server is running, the next thing I’d like to check is whether the upgrade moved you onto a Sonicorbiter OS version that still meets the current Roon requirements for SonicTransporter, since older versions can stop appearing after an update. The details in Roon Software Update - Minimum Requirements Update for SonicTransporter may help here.
To narrow this down further, can you tell us whether you can reach the SonicTransporter’s web UI from the Windows 11 computer, and whether the Roon Remote on your S23 sees any server at all when you use “Select a different Roon Server”? If you can, a screenshot of the SonicTransporter status page would also be useful.
Once we know whether the issue is at the server level or only discovery in Roon Remote, we can take the next step.
Thanks for getting back to me. I went through a lot of different procedures to get everything working. To be frank, I am not sure exactly which one resulted in the Remote being able to see the SonicTransporter as the server as I did a lot of different steps. The most likely one was the two-step update process to move the software from 2.7 to 2.8. The procedure was confusing and just hitting the update button doesn’t update the firmware. Took following another topic here to do it correctly. Once the software was updated that was the key to the remote finding the SonicTransporter as the server.
After all of this, then the SonicTransporter was not showing up as an audio source. One of the procedures I had tried said to uncheck all the boxes on the SonicTransporter Roon Server Settings. I didn’t realize that one of the boxes enabled the SonicTransporter to be an audio source. Later going through everything multiple times, I realized that box needed to be checked. So I rechecked that box and it showed up as an audio source.
The final issue, I dealt with was that Windows 11 cannot open the Files on the SonicTransporter. I had to reset Windows 11 to SMB 1 file sharing (which is not recommended for security reasons).
Fortunately through all of this, I was also able to get Roon Arc to work which it had never worked before.
Thank you for the update! I am glad to hear that you managed to navigate through the firmware update process and successfully re-enabled the audio output settings. It sounds like quite a journey, but it is great that you got everything back up and running—and even better that you managed to get ARC working in the process.
Since your system is now fully functional, I will go ahead and close this thread. If you run into any other questions in the future, don’t hesitate to reach out. Happy listening!
