Describe the issue

Roon server on Windows laptop is running fine. I can connect to it using Roon Arc from my Android phone but not using the Roon app, which cannot find the roon server.

Describe your network setup

home wifi, not sure of eqiupment sorry

Just to clarify, you said you can connect using ARC from your phone but not the Roon app. Is that the Roon app on your Phone as well as the Roon App on the laptop that is running the Server?

Hi bearFNF, thanks for your response!

I’m confused. I use my Windows laptop as the Roon Core. When I’m out of the house I use Roon Arc.

When I’m in the house but not on my computer, I want to use an Android device, like my phone or tablet to operate Roon. When I go to the Google Playstore there is a Roon app (previously I think it was called Roon remote?). Is that not the one I need to do this?

It is the one to use

Yes, it is the one to use, I was trying to confirm whether the laptop with the server on it (or any other device on the network) could get into Roon or not.

Can you post the LAN (local) IP addresses for the server laptop and your phone?

I’m not at home at the moment but both IP addresses were the same except for the last number

Hi @hayo_reinders,

Remote access via ARC is officially supported - Roon itself is meant for use within a single network, rather than via proxy mesh.

If you’re interested in using Roon itself in a remote environment, please post in Tinkering.

If you’re having issues with RoonServer connectivity within a single network (not across two networks remotely connected), then we can investigate diagnostics.

Hi connor, thank you for your reply.

I’m afraid though, I don’t understand it.

I don’t know what a proxy mesh is. It’s not something I set up/initiated myself.

f you’re interested in using Roon itself in a remote environment,
I don’t know what this means. I am trying to access the Roon server on my laptop using an Android device in the same home.

I think this describes my situation.

I just found a solution. As it turns out I have two networks using one router (due to the distance between the two parts of the house). When I move the laptop with the roon server on it to the same network where the router is, I can access it using the Roon app on my phone, from anywhere in the house.

It looks like the problem has been solved.

Now I need to find a way to keep my laptop on 24/7 so I can access it from outside the home. We have frequent power outages here in New Zealand and so I will need a UPS. In order to calculate what size I need to buy , does anyone know how much power a 2023 laptop consumes with the screen off? (HP spectre).

My HP Spectre 360 uses ~12 Watts with the lid closed (no programs running so basically it’s asleep). I don’t have Roon server on it just use it as a remote occasionally.
For reference it uses ~45 Watts while fully charged, plugged into mains, and doing a windows update with Roon remote playing music.

That’s very helpful, thank you.
