Roon Arc 1.0.44 Build 220 Android - App freezes when plugging in a USB dongle DAC

I’ve tried an uninstall and reinstall. It reliably happens and requires a force close to function properly again. The issue returns as soon as I plugin the dongle DAC in again.

Client Info:
Android v.14 QPR1
Pixel 7 Pro
Arc 1.0.44 Build (220)

Server Info:
Ubuntu 22.04
Roon Core 2.0 Build (1311)

DAC Info:

Do you have the Beta USB Driver in ARC settings turned on? If so, turn it off and see if it works.

I’m sorry, I should have specified that.

With the driver switch turned off, it functions as expected. I just upgraded my phone to the pixel 8 pro, and it is running retail software (Android 14 official) with the same issue.

The driver seems to be the problem. Android 14 now allows bit perfect playback natively if the app adds in the requirements to their software. Hopefully that’ll be a better solution going forward.

ARC beta driver has always been the problem since day one. It has never been move out of beta since. The support for this is very limited unlike USB Audio Player Pro. You have to hand try the different USB DACs in the market see whether it work with ARC Roon. In the past I used AK-HC2 but since it incorporated MUSE EQ, it is broken and crash every time. I’ve to resort to using iFi Go Bar for my portable playback.

I’ve raised this issue many times but unfortunately, they can’t resolve this crashing issue. You can see for yourself this forum here:

Till today there’s no fix. I’m not sure this is their priority list right now or simply this kind of support is difficult to implement in the first place :frowning:
