Roon ARC 174.392 artist sorting not working

Good morning.

Artists sorting, by most played, is not working. It doesnt follow ROON main app information, and its completely wrong, even after clearing cache or disconnecting from ROON core and reestablishing connection. In my case, it states artists that I allmost never listen to (if ever) as the most played.

This in turn, creates an issue with carplay, since it only shows the first x artists, meaning I can never select other artists (their capital letter).

Looking at the similar reports, this problem has existed for years.

Please sort this out.

Have you pressed the arrow in the UI to switch sort direction?

Thanks for your help!

Strangely enough, the changing the arrow was not changing the order - now it’s working!

Still, changing the order (pressing the arrow) has no effect on carplay - meaning, it doesn’t change artist selection availability (only a few (capital) letters show up…). :frowning:

There’s an inconsistency between ARC and the Roon app, and perhaps this happened to you:

In ARC, you need to tap the arrow itself. Tapping the menu entry anywhere else has no effect. In the Roon app, tapping the entry anywhere works.

Thanks! Do you use carplay? Are you able to see every artist from your library?

No, I’m not regularly using CarPlay, but the limit on number of items in a list was discussed frequently in the past. This seems to be a CarPlay limitation. I thought a solution had been implemented in ARC by adding an alphabetical choice (A-M and N-Z, etc.) like Apple Music has it, too.

Don’t know about CarPlay but there’s nothing like this on Android Auto…it’s a constant source of frustration as I can only access a seemingly random selection of letters on the A-Z screen.

I’d also comment that the home screen on Android Auto takes forever to reflect changes to Listen Later, Recently Played etc.

Strange. I found an older post of mine referencing other posts that confirmed that this had been added to CarPlay:

Ah, I think we may be talking about slightly different things. There is an A-Z option, which I think is what is being referenced there. Problem is it’s utterly rubbish, as it picks and chooses which letters it will show based on some sort of arbitrary criteria, presumably associated with the underlying list limit.

I’ve never seen it myself, I was going by this quote mainly, which sounded reasonable to me

Yeah, would be lovely if it worked, but sadly it doesn’t. I first raised it as feedback a while ago, but I can only assume that there’s little interest in making Android Auto functional. So much of Roon is fantastic, but using it in the car remains challenging.

That’s very sad

Yep… the sorting only shows a few capital letters to choose from.

Still I just found out today, a way to show all the capital letters, which occurred to me after changing the arrow direction in artist’s most played sorting: - if you select the artist’s most played (from most played downwards) as a sorting order, in ARC directly on the phone, before using the Android Auto interface, the artists sorting order, in Android Auto, will follow that order and show all the artists (all capital letters)

Oh wow, I can’t believe that actually seems to work! That’s made my day - thank you  Maybe that might give Roon some clues on how to fix it properly

As I found out yesterday (the issue has been bothering me for years), artist availability in Android Auto will follow the sorting order set in ROON ARC, before connecting to.Android Auto.

This somewhat cincunvents the limit imposed by Android Auto.

Also searching with Gemini (voice comand) inside Android Auto, allows one to play a specific album by an Artist, but not a song:

“Play x album by y artist” works!

“Play x song by y artist “ doesn’t!

Why there isn’t a simple search function (using the Android Auto keyboard) is beyond me.. Qobuz has it.

I’ve asked before, but it was never implemented.

Based on the example voice commands I see sprinkled around the forum, it seems to me that „track“ instead of „song“ might be the expected keyword, as in „play track x by artist y“. Perhaps this works better.

I will try. Thanks!

Play track x by y artist doesn’t seem to work.. at least with Gemini on Android
